If you are here because addiction has held you captive — whether it's alcohol, substances, pornography, gambling, or any other chain — you are in the right place. The Table of the Lord is a place of freedom.

Addiction tells you that you are powerless. It whispers that you will never be free, that this is just who you are now. But the cross declares something different: "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).

Why This Communion Matters

Addiction is not just a physical or psychological battle — it is a spiritual one. The enemy uses addiction to isolate you, to shame you, to convince you that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. Every time you fall, he whispers: "See? You'll never be free."

But Communion shatters that lie. At the Table, you encounter the body that was broken to break every chain and the blood that was poured out to purchase your complete redemption. Addiction does not have the final word — the finished work of Jesus Christ does.

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Read this again. Not "might be free." Not "could be free if you try harder." Free indeed.

Short Teaching

Addiction thrives in isolation and shame. The enemy's strategy is always the same: get you alone, get you ashamed, and keep you there. But here is what the cross declares: Jesus went to the cross publicly, bearing your shame openly, so that you would never have to hide again.

When Jesus said "It is finished," He was not just referring to the debt of sin. He was declaring the end of every chain's authority over your life. The power of addiction was broken at Calvary. The question is not whether freedom is available — it is whether you will receive it.

Communion is an act of receiving. When you take the bread, you declare: "The body of Christ was broken so my bondage would be broken." When you drink the cup, you declare: "The blood of Christ covers my shame and seals my freedom." You are not fighting for victory — you are fighting from victory.

Freedom is not a destination you hope to reach. It is a reality Christ already purchased. Communion is how you receive it.

The Bread

His Body — Broken to Break Every Chain

Bread Declaration

Lord Jesus, I hold this bread, and I remember Your body — broken for me. Every chain that has held me was broken at the cross. Every addiction that has controlled me lost its power when You gave Your body. I receive my freedom now. The body of Christ was broken so my bondage would be broken. I am not defined by what held me captive. I am defined by the One who set me free.

Receive the Bread

Take the bread. Eat it. As you do, declare that Christ's body broke the power of addiction over your life.

Part Two

The Cup

His Blood — Covering Shame, Sealing Freedom

Cup Declaration

Lord Jesus, I hold this cup. This is Your blood — the blood of the New Covenant. Your blood covers every moment of my past that I am ashamed of. Your blood seals my freedom and my future. I declare that shame has no hold on me. Addiction has no authority over me. I am washed clean. I am made new. By the blood of Jesus, I am free indeed.

Receive the Cup

Drink. Receive the blood that covers your shame and confirms your freedom.

Closing Prayer

Father, I have carried the weight of addiction long enough. Today, at Your Table, I lay it down. I receive the freedom that Jesus purchased with His body and blood.

I declare that I am no longer a slave to sin. I am no longer a captive to addiction. The Son has set me free, and I am free indeed. When temptation rises, remind me that I have already been to the Table and received everything I need to stand.

Walk with me, Holy Spirit. Fill the spaces that addiction once occupied. Replace every craving with a hunger for Your presence. Replace every shameful memory with the truth of who I am in Christ.

I seal this Communion in the precious blood of Jesus. No chain, no shame, no addiction can override what Christ accomplished on the cross. I am free. I am clean. I am whole. In Jesus' name, Amen.
