When You're Struggling with Anger
Your anger is real — but it doesn't have to own you. Jesus purchased peace that conquers rage.
Welcome, friend.
You're angry. Maybe it's justified — you were genuinely wronged. Maybe it's accumulated — one offense stacked on another until the pile is too heavy. Maybe it's turned inward and become depression. Anger itself is not the sin — it's what you do with it. But when anger takes up residence, it becomes a poison you drink hoping someone else will die.
I want you to know today: Jesus understands anger at injustice — His anger at the money changers was righteous. But He also purchased peace that can calm the storm inside you. You can be angry and not sin. You can release the anger without letting the offender off the hook.
Opening Prayer
Father, come near. We bring before You the one carrying anger. Give them peace. Help them separate righteous anger from destructive rage. Let them release what needs to be released and address what needs to be addressed — all in Your wisdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
"In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." — Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)
And also: "By his stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)
Listen to me: Your anger is real, but Jesus has purchased the peace that can dwell alongside righteous anger and the release that frees you from destructive rage.
Anger tells you something is wrong. It's a signal, not a sin. But when anger becomes your identity, when it festers and turns to bitterness, it's no longer serving you — it's serving the enemy. Unresolved anger gives the devil a foothold.
When you take Communion, you're saying: "I release the anger that's been consuming me. I claim peace that surpasses understanding. I trust God to handle the justice I can't. And I receive the freedom of not having to carry this anger anymore."
