Chronic Illness Communion

Chronic illness tests more than your body — it tests your faith, your identity, and your hope. It can make you question whether God hears you, whether He sees you, whether He cares. The waiting is its own kind of warfare. And sometimes the hardest part is watching other people get their breakthrough while you're still in the battle.

Communion is your declaration that you have not been forgotten. The bread and the cup are evidence that God gave everything for you — He did not hold back His own Son. If He gave you Jesus, will He not also give you everything you need for this journey? At the Table, you exchange comparison for communion, questions for presence, and exhaustion for the strength that only grace provides.

The Apostle Paul was a man who saw the dead raised. He was shipwrecked, beaten, imprisoned — and yet he also had a thorn in his flesh that God did not remove. We don't know exactly what it was. Some scholars say it was a physical ailment, perhaps a problem with his eyes. Whatever it was, Paul asked God three times to take it. Three times.

God's answer: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." This was not a denial of healing — God still heals. But it was a revelation that even in the waiting, even in the ongoing battle, the power of Christ rests on you in a unique way. Your weakness is not a barrier to His power — it is the very place where His power shows up most clearly.

When you take Communion with a chronic illness, you are not pretending the illness isn't there. You are declaring that even in the illness, Christ is sufficient. You are saying: "I don't understand why this hasn't lifted, but I trust the One who is with me in it." That is not weak faith. That is faith refined by fire.

Your healing has not been denied. It has been entrusted — to the One whose timeline is perfect and whose grace never runs out.
