If you have been wounded by the church, this Communion is for you. Whether a pastor betrayed your trust, a congregation turned its back, spiritual leaders abused their authority, or the institution that was supposed to be your refuge became the source of your deepest pain — you are not alone.

It is a particular kind of pain when the hurt comes from God's house. It can make you question your faith. It can make you wonder if God Himself abandoned you. But here is what you must know: Jesus was rejected by the religious establishment of His day. The people who should have recognized Him called for His crucifixion. He understands church hurt. He understands you.

Why This Communion Matters

Church hurt can separate you from community. It can make the thought of walking into a sanctuary feel impossible. It can make worship songs sting and sermons feel like weapons. But the church is not God, and God is not the church. The failures of people — even people in leadership — do not change the character of Jesus Christ.

At the Table, there are no hypocrites, no politics, no power plays. There is only you and Jesus. This is the purest form of church — the fellowship of the redeemed with the Redeemer. You do not need to trust an institution to come to this Table. You only need to trust the One who set the Table. And He has never failed you.

Primary Scripture

Psalm 34:18

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

He does not recoil from your broken heart. He draws near to it.

Short Teaching

It was not atheists who killed Jesus. It was religious people. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, the Pharisees — these were the people who knew the Scriptures backward and forward, who prayed in public, who were respected and honored — and they were the ones who handed Jesus over to be crucified. If anyone understands what it is to be wounded by the religious, it is Jesus Christ.

And yet, Jesus did not abandon the church. He died for it. Ephesians 5 says He loved the church and gave Himself for her. The church is not a building or an institution or a pastor — the church is the body of Christ, the people He redeemed. And even when those people fail — and they will — Jesus remains faithful.

Your pain is real. What was done to you was wrong. And you are allowed to be angry, to grieve, to step back from the building while you heal. But do not let the failures of people drive you from the presence of Jesus. The Table is open to you — not as a member of an institution in good standing, but as a beloved child of God, bought with blood.

Your faith is not in the church. Your faith is in the One the church belongs to. And He has never broken a promise.

Part One

The Bread

His Body — Broken by Religious Hands, for You

Bread Declaration

Lord Jesus, I hold this bread — Your body, broken for me. You know what it is to be wounded by religious hands. You bore those wounds so that I would never have to carry mine alone. Today, I release the church to You. I release the people who hurt me into Your hands. Their judgment is not my burden. Their accountability is not my assignment. I receive the healing of my heart from the only One who can truly heal it — You.

Receive the Bread

Take the bread. Eat it. Release the pain and receive the healing that only Jesus provides.

Part Two

The Cup

His Blood — Restoring What the Church Could Not

Cup Declaration

Lord Jesus, I hold this cup — Your blood, the blood of the New Covenant. This is not a covenant with a denomination or a pastor or a congregation. This is a covenant with You. I forgive those who hurt me in Your name — not because they deserve it, but because my freedom requires it. I receive Your blood as the covering for every wound and the seal of a relationship with You that no human failure can break.

Receive the Cup

Drink. Receive the covenant that no human being, no institution, and no church can sever.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, I have carried the weight of church hurt long enough. Today, I release the people who failed me. I release the leaders who abused their position. I release the congregation that looked away. I will not let their failure define my relationship with You.

I have taken the bread — receiving the healing of my heart from the wounds the church inflicted. I have taken the cup — receiving a covenant with You that no person can break. I am not leaving the church. I am the church. And I am being restored.

Holy Spirit, walk with me. If there is a community I can trust again, lead me there gently. If I need to rest at Your feet alone for a season, hold me there. I seal this Communion in the blood of Jesus — who was wounded by the religious so that I could be healed. Amen.

Declarations
