When You're Facing Debt

Debt is not your identity. Jesus purchased freedom — and that includes freedom from financial bondage.

Proverbs 22:7·About 10 minutes
Welcome

Welcome, friend.

The debt is weighing on you. Every phone call makes your stomach drop. Every bill reminds you of decisions you wish you'd made differently — or circumstances you couldn't control. You feel trapped. You feel ashamed. You wonder if you'll ever dig out.

I want you to know today: Debt is a situation — not your identity. The borrower is slave to the lender, yes — but Jesus came to set captives free. That includes financial captivity. He can give you wisdom for the path out, provision for what you need, and peace while you walk it.

Opening Prayer

Father, come near. We bring before You the one buried under debt. Release them from shame. Give them wisdom for the path out. Provide for their needs while they walk it. And remind them that their worth is not measured by their net worth. In Jesus' name, Amen.

"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender." — Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)

And also: "By his stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

Teaching

Listen to me: Jesus paid a debt He didn't owe so you could be free from a debt you couldn't pay.

The central transaction of the Gospel is debt cancellation. You owed a sin debt you could never repay, and Jesus paid it in full. If He can cancel your eternal debt, He can certainly give you a strategy for your financial debt. The same grace that saved you is the grace that will lead you out.

When you take Communion, you're saying: "I release the shame of debt. I claim wisdom for my finances. I claim breakthrough and provision. And I receive the freedom Jesus purchased — spiritual and financial."

The Bread

Invitation

Please take the bread.

[Allow a brief pause]

Reflection

This bread represents the body of Christ — broken so that every debt you owe — spiritual and financial — would have a path to freedom. When you receive this bread, you receive the truth that Jesus is your debt-canceler.

Prayer Over the Bread

Jesus, I thank You for Your broken body. I release the shame of debt. I claim wisdom for my finances. I claim breakthrough. By Your stripes, I am free. Thank You. Amen.

The Cup

Invitation

Please take the cup.

[Allow a pause]

Reflection

When Jesus shed His blood, He purchased complete freedom. Not partial. Not someday. Fully and completely. When you receive this cup, you receive the promise that freedom — in every area — is yours.

Prayer Over the Cup

Jesus, I thank You for Your blood. I claim complete freedom. I claim the strategy to eliminate this debt. By Your blood, I am no longer a slave — to sin or to debt. Amen.

Drink the Cup

Together, let us receive the cup.

[Allow a quiet moment]

Closing Prayer

Father, I stand before You on behalf of everyone trapped by debt. Give them wisdom. Give them discipline. Give them breakthrough. Remove the shame that keeps them hiding and let them walk in the freedom Jesus purchased. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Declarations

Speak these truths over yourself

"Jesus paid my debt so I can be free from all debt."

"By the stripes of Jesus, I have breakthrough."

"Debt is my situation — not my identity."

"God is giving me wisdom to walk out of this."

"I release shame and receive grace."

You are beloved. You are not defined by debt. Freedom is your inheritance.

There is no limit on claiming what belongs to you.

Go in peace.
