Debt Freedom Communion

Money is a spiritual issue. Jesus talked about money more than He talked about heaven and hell combined — because He knew that how you handle money reveals the condition of your heart, and that financial bondage is real bondage. Debt can make you feel trapped, hopeless, and defined by a number.

But Communion is the place where every chain is broken. The body of Christ was broken to break the power of debt. The blood of Christ paid a debt you could never pay — your sin debt — and if He handled the greater debt, He can certainly handle the lesser one. At this Table, you exchange the identity of "borrower" for the identity of "lender" — because your Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills.

In 2 Kings 4, a widow came to the prophet Elisha in desperation. Her husband — a man who feared the Lord — had died, and creditors were coming to take her sons as slaves. All she had left was a small jar of olive oil. Elisha told her to borrow empty jars from her neighbors — not a few. She and her sons gathered jars, shut the door, and began to pour. The oil kept flowing until every jar was full. She sold the oil, paid off the debt, and lived on the remainder.

God's provision multiplies in your hands, not before. The widow had to act — she had to gather jars, she had to pour. And as she poured, the miracle happened. Your part is to be faithful with what you have. God's part is to multiply it. Communion is the shut door — the private place where you meet with God and the miracle begins.

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray "forgive us our debts," the word used is the same word for financial debt. Forgiveness and financial freedom are connected in the economy of God. At the Table, you receive both — your sins forgiven and the power of debt broken over your life.

The God who provided oil that didn't run out is the same God who meets you at this Table.
