When You're Struggling with Your Husband/Spouse

Your worth is not dependent on your spouse's love. Find healing at the Table — whether your marriage is restored or not.

1 Corinthians 13:7·About 10 minutes
Welcome

Welcome, friend.

Your marriage is broken. Maybe you're in active conflict. Maybe you've grown distant. Maybe your spouse is unfaithful, emotionally unavailable, or actively harming you. Maybe you're both trying to hold on but neither of you knows how anymore.

The place that's supposed to be your greatest refuge has become a place of pain.

I want you to know today: Your struggle in your marriage is real, and it matters deeply to God.

Jesus understands covenant. He understands the pain of a relationship that's not working. He understands the weight of trying to love someone who may not be able to receive that love the way you're offering it.

And He went to the Cross to purchase healing — not just for your soul, but for your marriage, for your heart, for your ability to love and be loved.

Opening Prayer

Father, come near.

We invite Your presence into this moment. We ask that You heal wounded marriages. Bring peace where there is conflict. Bring understanding where there is pain.

Give us healing. Give us wisdom. Give us the ability to love faithfully whether our spouse responds or not.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

"Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." — 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT)

And also: "By his stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

Teaching

Listen to me: Your marriage struggle is not a sign that God has abandoned you, and Jesus has purchased healing for your marriage and for your heart.

Marriage is beautiful and marriage is hard. You made a covenant with someone. And then real life happened — with all its disappointment, conflict, and brokenness.

Here's what I need you to understand: You can take Communion and claim healing even if your marriage is broken. Not because you're denying the reality of your marriage. But because you're claiming something greater: the truth that your healing and your worth are not dependent on your spouse's love, faithfulness, or presence.

Your spouse was never meant to be your savior. Your spouse was never meant to be your source of worth, identity, or wholeness. Only Jesus can be that for you.

This doesn't mean you stop loving your spouse. But it does mean you stop depending on their love to heal you.

The Bread

Invitation

Please take the bread.

[Allow a brief pause]

Reflection

This bread represents the body of Christ. When you married your spouse, you brought all your wounds into the marriage. But Jesus' brokenness heals. When you receive this bread, you're receiving the truth that healing does not come from your spouse. Healing comes from Christ.

Prayer Over the Bread

Jesus, I thank You for Your broken body. I release my spouse from the impossible job of being my healer. I release my marriage from the burden of providing my wholeness. I claim healing for my heart. By Your stripes, I am healed. Thank You. Amen.

The Cup

Invitation

Please take the cup.

[Allow a pause]

Reflection

When Jesus shed His blood, He purchased the power to love faithfully even when love is not returned. The love of a spouse is a beautiful gift. But the ultimate gift is the love of Christ — unconditional, eternal, and never-failing.

Prayer Over the Cup

Jesus, I thank You for Your blood. I claim wholeness and healing in my marriage. I claim the ability to love my spouse faithfully whether they change or not. By Your blood, I am healed. By Your blood, I am complete.

Amen.

Closing Prayer

Father, I stand before You on behalf of everyone struggling in their marriage. Heal wounded marriages. Bring restoration where reconciliation is possible. For those in abusive marriages — grant them the courage to leave. Help them know that God does not require them to stay in a situation that is harming them.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Declarations

Speak these truths over yourself

"My worth is not dependent on my spouse's love."

"By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed."

"I am whole in Christ, whether my marriage is healed or not."

"I can love my spouse faithfully without losing myself."

"God's love for me is perfect, eternal, and never-failing."

You are beloved. You are worthy. You will be okay.

There is no limit on claiming what belongs to you.

Go in peace.
