When You've Experienced Trauma or Abuse
What happened to you was evil — and God is not okay with it. Jesus was wounded so you could be made whole. Claim the restoration He purchased.
Welcome, friend.
What happened to you was evil. It was wrong. It should never have happened. And God is not okay with it. He weeps with you. He is angry at the perpetrator. He is not distant from your pain — He was wounded for your wounds. You may have been carrying this silently for years, or it may be fresh. Either way, Jesus wants to meet you here.
I want you to know today: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The healing is not about minimizing what happened — it's about reclaiming what was stolen. By His stripes, the deepest wounds are healed. Not covered up — healed.
Opening Prayer
Father, come near with gentleness. We bring before You a survivor of trauma. Heal what was broken. Restore what was stolen. Let them know that what was done to them does not define them — the Cross defines them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
And also: "By his stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)
Listen to me: Your trauma is not your identity. You are not "damaged." You are not "broken." You are a survivor being restored. Jesus was abused — He was beaten, stripped, mocked, and crucified — so that every victim of abuse could be made whole. He took the worst abuse in history so you could be free from its effects.
When you take Communion as a trauma survivor, you're saying: "I release the weight of what happened to me. I receive healing for the wounds — the ones people can see and the ones they can't. I claim my identity as loved, whole, and redeemed. And I declare that what was meant to destroy me will become part of my testimony of God's restoration."

Declarations
Speak these truths over yourself
"By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed — every wound."
"What happened to me does not define me."
"I am not a victim — I am a survivor being restored."
"God restores what was stolen."
"My testimony of restoration is coming."
You are beloved. You are whole. You are not what happened to you — you are who Christ says you are.
There is no limit on claiming what belongs to you.
Go in peace.
