Prayer for Adoption

"He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ." — Ephesians 1:5

Adoption is a picture of the Gospel — we were orphans, and God chose us, grafted us into His family, and gave us His name. Every adoption journey reflects this beautiful truth. This prayer covers waiting families, children being placed, birth parents making impossible decisions, and the holy work of making a family through love rather than biology.

A Prayer for Adoption

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for adoption. I thank You that You adopted us into Your family through the blood of Jesus — and that every earthly adoption is a reflection of that holy reality. Today I plead the precious blood of Jesus over every part of this adoption journey.

For waiting families: sustain their hope. The paperwork, the waiting, the uncertainty — it is a marathon, not a sprint. Give them endurance. Let every door that needs to open, open. Let every obstacle be removed.

For the child being adopted: prepare their heart. Whether they are an infant or an older child, whether they come from foster care or another country — let them know they are chosen, wanted, and loved. Heal any trauma from their past. Let attachment happen naturally. Let them feel safe.

For birth parents: cover them with Your grace. The decision they have made or are making is one of the hardest decisions imaginable. Give them peace. Let them know their child is loved.

For the transition: let this family bond. Let love grow. Let the adjustment be smooth. Let this home be a place of healing, security, and belonging.

I love You. I honor You. I give You all the glory. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Confession of Faith

I confess that adoption reflects the heart of the Father. I confess that this child is chosen and beloved. I confess that God goes before us in every step of this process. I confess that this family is ordained by God.

Declaration

I declare that adoption is holy ground. I declare that this child belongs. I declare that every barrier is removed. I declare that this family is blessed.
