Prayer for Caregiver Burnout
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28
You give everything you have to care for someone else and there is nothing left for you. You manage medications, appointments, meals, hygiene, emotions — the weight of another person's well-being rests on your shoulders. You love the person you care for, but you are running on empty. The exhaustion is physical, emotional, and spiritual. You feel guilty for even admitting how tired you are. But you cannot pour from an empty cup. God sees the sacrifice you are making — and He does not require you to destroy yourself in the process. This prayer is for every caregiver who is running on fumes — asking for strength, rest, and permission to also care for yourself.
A Prayer for Caregiver Burnout
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You exhausted from caregiving. I thank You that You are the God who gives rest. I thank You that You see the sacrifice I am making. I thank You that it is not wrong to be tired.
I acknowledge that I am running on empty. I acknowledge the physical exhaustion, the emotional weight, the spiritual depletion. I acknowledge that I feel guilty for admitting how tired I am. I acknowledge that I cannot keep going like this without something changing.
I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my body. Over my mind. Over my emotions. Over the person I am caring for. Over the guilt I feel whenever I think about my own needs.
Give me strength that is not my own. Give me rest — real rest, not just sleep but restoration of my soul. Give me practical help — people who can give me breaks. Release me from the guilt of needing care myself. Teach me that caring for myself is not selfish — it is necessary.
I commit to letting people help me. I commit to taking breaks without guilt. Thank You that You are carrying what I cannot carry. Thank You that my weariness is not a failure. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
