Prayer for Dementia

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You about dementia. I thank You that no disease can separate us from Your love. I thank You that You hold us even when our minds fail. I thank You that identity is not stored in memory but in being known by You.

I acknowledge the grief of watching someone fade. I acknowledge the exhaustion of caregiving for someone who may not know who I am. I acknowledge the fear — for the person with dementia and for what this disease might mean for me one day.

I plead the precious blood of Jesus over the mind that is fading. Over the memories that are disappearing. Over the family walking this road. Over the caregivers. Over every moment of confusion and fear.

Give moments of connection — a song remembered, a face recognized, a hand held. Give strength to caregivers who are losing the person they love a little more each day. Comfort the grief that comes in waves. Hold the person with dementia close — let them feel Your presence even when they cannot name it.

I commit to loving faithfully through the decline. Thank You that this disease is not the final word. Thank You that one day all things will be made new — including minds. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
