Prayer for Discernment in Relationships
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." — Proverbs 4:23
Relationships shape the course of your life — who you marry, who you befriend, who you partner with in business. The heart can be drawn to people who are not good for you, and emotions can cloud judgment. You need wisdom that goes beyond what feels right in the moment. God sees what you cannot see. He knows the character of the person you are drawn to. He knows where a relationship is heading. This prayer is for anyone navigating a relationship — a romantic interest, a new friendship, a business partnership — asking for clarity to recognize what is healthy and what is not, and courage to act on what God shows you.
A Prayer for Discernment in Relationships
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You about this relationship. I thank You that You care about who I let into my life. I thank You that You see what I cannot see. I thank You that You want what is best for me.
I acknowledge that my heart can be drawn to people who are not good for me. I acknowledge that emotions can cloud my judgment. I acknowledge that I need wisdom beyond my own understanding.
I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my heart. Over my judgment. Over this relationship. Over every decision I make about who I let close to me.
Give me discernment to see this person clearly — not who I want them to be, but who they actually are. Show me red flags I am ignoring. Give me wisdom to recognize whether this relationship is healthy or harmful. If this is not Your will, give me the courage to walk away. If this is from You, give me peace and confirmation.
I commit to seeking Your wisdom above my own feelings. I commit to listening to godly counsel. Thank You that You guide me. Thank You that You protect me from relationships that would harm me. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
