Prayer for Eating Disorders

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you?" — 1 Corinthians 6:19

The war with food and your body has consumed years of your life. Restriction, bingeing, purging, counting, obsessing — the eating disorder promised control but delivered only prison. You measure your worth by the scale. You have learned to hide the behaviors from people who love you. Recovery is not as simple as "just eat normally" — it is a journey that touches your identity, your emotions, your relationship with control, and your deepest beliefs about your worth. But healing is real. Your body is not the enemy. Food was meant to be a gift, not a battlefield. This prayer is for anyone struggling with an eating disorder — asking God for healing from the inside out and a restored relationship with food and body.

A Prayer for Freedom from Eating Disorders

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You about my eating disorder. I thank You that You love me — not my body size, not what I eat, but me. I thank You that my body is fearfully and wonderfully made. I thank You that healing is possible.

I acknowledge that food and body image have control over my life. I acknowledge the behaviors I hide. I acknowledge that this is about more than food — it is about control, self-worth, pain I do not know how to process. I acknowledge that I need help I cannot give myself.

I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my relationship with food. Over my body image. Over the scale and the mirror. Over my mind — every distorted thought about my body. Over the underlying pain that drives the eating disorder. Over my recovery journey.

Heal my relationship with food — let it become nourishment and enjoyment, not enemy and obsession. Heal how I see my body — let me see what You see. Heal the pain underneath the eating disorder. Give me the courage to get professional help. Give me patience with the recovery process.

I commit to recovery — real recovery, not just managing symptoms. I commit to getting the help I need. Thank You that my worth has never been determined by the scale. Thank You that full recovery is possible. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
