Prayer for Forgiveness
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins." — 1 John 1:9
Forgiveness is the door to freedom — both receiving it and giving it. Whether you need to receive God's forgiveness for your own failures, or you need the grace to forgive someone who hurt you deeply, this prayer is for you. The cross of Jesus Christ paid for every sin, and His resurrection empowers you to release every debt.
A Prayer for Forgiveness
Lord, I come asking for forgiveness. For the things I have done that hurt others. For the things I have said that wounded. For the things I have failed to do that people needed.
God, I confess my sins to You. I acknowledge the ways I have failed. I take responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I ask for Your forgiveness and the forgiveness of those I have hurt.
I release myself from the guilt and shame of my mistakes. I accept the forgiveness that Jesus purchased for me on the cross. I move forward with a clean heart.
For those I have hurt, I ask for opportunity to make amends. For those who will not forgive me, I release that to You and trust Your justice.
And Lord — I also bring before You those who have hurt me. I choose to forgive them. Not because they deserve it. Not because what they did was okay. But because You forgave me. Because unforgiveness is a poison I refuse to keep drinking. Because my freedom matters more than my resentment.
I release every person who has wronged me into Your hands. I cancel the debts they owe me. I refuse to keep record of their wrongs. I choose to bless and not curse. I choose freedom over bitterness.
I declare that I am forgiven. That my past is redeemed. That I can move forward in freedom. And I declare that those who hurt me no longer have power over my heart.
In Jesus' name, cleansed and restored. Amen.
