Prayer for Freedom from Alcohol

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." — John 8:36

Alcohol promised relief but delivered bondage. What started as social drinking or a way to cope has become something you cannot control. You have tried to stop on your own — maybe more than once. The shame and the secrecy are heavy. But freedom is possible. Not just white-knuckle sobriety, but real liberation from the grip alcohol has on your life. God does not condemn you for where you are. He meets you in it and offers a way out. This prayer is for anyone who wants to be free — asking for the strength to break chains, the courage to face what you have been numbing, and the grace to walk into a new life.

A Prayer for Freedom from Alcohol

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You about my relationship with alcohol. I thank You that You do not condemn me. I thank You that You want freedom for me. I thank You that nothing is too hard for You — not even this.

I acknowledge that alcohol has a hold on me. I acknowledge that what started as social drinking or a way to cope has become something I cannot control. I acknowledge that I have tried to stop on my own and it has not worked. I acknowledge the shame and the secrecy.

I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my addiction. Over the hold alcohol has on me. Over every trigger that pulls me back. Over the shame. Over the pattern of relapse. Over my mind and my body as I pursue sobriety.

Break the chains of this addiction in my life. Give me the strength to say no. Give me the courage to face what I have been numbing with alcohol. Surround me with people who will support my sobriety. Heal the underlying pain that drives me to drink. Give me one day of sobriety at a time.

I commit to pursuing freedom. I commit to getting the help I need. Thank You that I am not defined by this struggle. Thank You that freedom is a real possibility. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
