Prayer for Humility

Heavenly Father, You are high and lifted up, yet You dwell with the lowly and contrite in spirit. I come before You today acknowledging that without You, I am nothing. Every good thing in my life is a gift from Your hand. I have nothing that I was not given. I humble myself before Your mighty hand, knowing that in due time You will lift me up — not by my striving, but by Your grace.

Lord, search my heart and reveal any pride that has taken root. Show me the places where I have been self-sufficient instead of God-dependent, where I have sought my own glory instead of Yours, where I have compared myself to others to feel better about myself. I confess these things as sin. Pride is rebellion against Your order, and I renounce it completely. Wash me clean and clothe me with humility.

Jesus, teach me to have the same mind that was in You. Though You were in very nature God, You did not grasp at equality with God. You emptied Yourself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient to death — even death on a cross. Let that same humility shape my heart. I choose to esteem others more highly than myself. I choose to serve rather than to be served. I choose the way of the cross.

Father, I ask for the grace that flows to the humble. Your Word promises that You give grace to the humble but oppose the proud. I do not want to live in opposition to You. I want to live in the flow of Your unmerited favor. Let humility be the posture of my heart that positions me to receive everything You want to pour out — wisdom, favor, promotion, and influence that comes from You, not from my own effort.

Help me to walk in humility in my relationships — in my marriage, my family, my workplace, my church, and my community. Let me be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Let me admit when I am wrong and seek forgiveness without defensiveness. Let my humility not be weakness but the strength it truly is — the strength of a life anchored in complete dependence on God.

Thank You, Father, that humility is not about thinking less of myself; it is about thinking of myself less. It is about fixing my eyes on You and on the needs of others. I receive Your grace today to walk in true humility — the kind that pleases You and reflects Christ to a watching world. In Jesus' humble and holy name, Amen.
