Prayer for New Employment
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." — Proverbs 16:3
You got the job. After the searching, the applications, the interviews — you are in. Now the real work begins. You are learning names, navigating the culture, figuring out expectations. You want to prove yourself. You want to make a good impression. You also want to steward this opportunity well and honor God through your work. Starting a new job is equal parts exciting and intimidating. But God did not open this door to abandon you in the hallway. He goes with you into this new role. This prayer is for anyone starting a new position and asking for wisdom, favor, and the grace to thrive.
A Prayer When Starting a New Job
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for this new employment. I thank You for the opportunity. I thank You for the provision this represents. I thank You for the chance to contribute and to grow. I thank You for the people I will work with and serve.
I acknowledge the newness. I acknowledge the learning curve ahead. I acknowledge the natural nervousness of beginning something unfamiliar. I acknowledge that I want to do well and I want to be valued.
I plead the precious blood of Jesus over this new position. Over my learning. Over my relationships with my colleagues. Over my success in this role.
Give me wisdom in my work. Help me learn quickly. Help me navigate the culture and the personalities. Help me make a positive contribution from day one. Help me balance professional ambition with contentment. Help me not get caught up in office politics. Help me remember that my work is ultimately service to You.
I commit to excellence. I commit to treating people with respect and kindness. I commit to being reliable and trustworthy. I commit to growing in this role and becoming an asset to this organization. Thank You that I am succeeding in this role. Thank You that I am valued here. Thank You that this is the right place for me at this time. I love You. I honor You. I give You all the glory. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
