Prayer for Patience

"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him." — Psalm 37:7

Patience sounds gentle, but it often feels like endurance through something difficult. You are waiting — for an answer, for a change, for a person to come around, for a season to end. And the waiting is wearing you thin. You snap at people who do not deserve it. You feel your frustration simmering just below the surface. You wonder why God is taking so long. But patience in Scripture is not passive resignation — it is active trust. It is the choice to believe that God is working even when you cannot see it. This prayer is for anyone whose patience is running out — asking God not just to make the waiting shorter, but to use it to shape your character and deepen your trust.

A Prayer for Patience

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You because my patience is thin. I thank You that You are patient with me. I thank You that Your timing is perfect — You are never early, never late. I thank You that waiting is not wasted in Your economy.

I acknowledge that I am frustrated with how long things are taking. I acknowledge that I snap at people. I acknowledge that I want resolution now. I acknowledge that waiting feels like nothing is happening, even though I intellectually know You are at work.

I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my frustration. Over my impatience with people. Over the waiting that wears me down. Over my trust in Your timing. Over the temptation to force outcomes rather than wait on You.

Grow patience in me — not just the behavior of waiting quietly but the deep trust that You are working. Teach me to see waiting as formation, not just delay. Give me grace for people who move at a different pace. Help me not to despise the process.

I commit to trusting Your timing even when I do not understand it. Thank You that patience is a fruit of Your Spirit being produced in me. Thank You that what You are doing in the waiting matters. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
