What if I told you that the Jesus you learned about in church isn't the whole story?
Not that you were lied to. But that you were given a partial picture.
What if the gentle Savior who loves you—the one who heals the sick and calms the storms—has another side? A side that's fierce. A side that's armed. A side that most believers have never seen.
What if Jesus is coming back as something entirely different from what you expect?
A Different Jesus Showed Up at Jericho
Let me show you something that will shift how you see Jesus.
Joshua was about to lead the people into battle. They'd spent forty years in the wilderness. They were finally ready. Finally positioned. Finally at the edge of the Promised Land. And Joshua was probably nervous. Probably wondering: How are we going to do this? These cities have walls. These people have armies.
And then something happened.
"Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, 'Are you for us or for our adversaries?' He said, 'No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the Lord's host.' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to Him, 'What has my lord to say to his servant?' And the captain of the Lord's host said to Joshua, 'Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so."
— Joshua 5:13-15
Do you see what happened?
Joshua encountered Jesus. The Captain of the Lord's host—that's Jesus. And He was standing there with His sword drawn.
Not the Jesus who talks softly in parables.
Not the Jesus who lets the children come to Him.
Not the Jesus who wept over Jerusalem.
The Jesus with His sword drawn.
And Joshua fell on his face.
The Jesus Most Believers Don't Know
Here's what I want you to see: the Jesus you learned about in Sunday School is real. The compassionate Savior is real. The healer is real. The one who loves you unconditionally—that's all true.
But that's not the complete picture.
There's a Jesus that's about to be revealed in a way most of us have never seen. And if you're not prepared for it, you might not even recognize Him when He comes.
"The Lord will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies."
— Isaiah 42:13
The Lord will go forth like a warrior. He will raise a war cry.
That's not Sunday School language.
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses."

This is Jesus. Coming in judgment. Coming to wage war. Coming clothed in robes dipped in blood.
This is not the gentle Jesus you learned about in Sunday School.
This is the Warrior King.
You're Being Prepared for This Jesus
Here's something that will make sense of everything you've been through:
Your wilderness season hasn't been a punishment. It's been preparation.
Joshua spent forty years in the wilderness. And then when he was ready—when the people were trained and positioned and ready for battle—the Captain of the Lord's host appeared with sword drawn.
If you've been in a wilderness season, listen to me: you're not being punished. You're being prepared.
The wilderness teaches you things you need to know before you step into your true authority.
It teaches you obedience.
It teaches you to trust God when circumstances are impossible.
It teaches you to discern truth from lies.
It teaches you to stand firm when everything around you is shaking.
And when you've learned those lessons, when you've passed those tests, the Lord shows up differently. He shows up as Captain. He shows up as Warrior. He shows up to say: You're ready. Now let's go to war.
"The wilderness you have been in has not been a punishment, but a time of preparation and of learning obedience. You have watched in fear the spiritual death of church leaders who disobeyed the Lord. But you have not stumbled over their disobedience; you have learned from it!"
Do you see what that means? You've been learning. While others were falling, you were learning. While others were making mistakes, you were paying attention. While others were compromising, you were standing firm. You're more prepared than you realize.
The Advancing Church Needs a War Cry
Something is shifting in the Body of Christ right now. And if you can feel it, that's because the Holy Spirit is preparing us for a new revelation of Jesus.
There's a new generation rising up in the church. A generation whose voice thunders with prophetic prayer. A generation that understands spiritual authority. A generation that's not content to just survive—they're ready to advance.
"I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it."
— Matthew 16:18
The gates of hell shall not stand against the Church.
Not because we're nice. Not because we're passive. Not because we're just going to sit in our pews and sing songs.
Because we're advancing.
The church is supposed to be on offense, not defense. We're supposed to be moving forward. We're supposed to be advancing the Kingdom. And that requires a different Jesus than the one who only comforts. It requires the Warrior King.
"Within the ranks of the Advancing Church, Jesus is raising up a new generation whose voice thunders with prophetic prayer. Through the church, Christ Himself is prevailing against His enemies. The hour has come for His church to grow in all aspects into Him, who is our head, even Christ, the Warrior King!"
Did you hear that? The Warrior King. That's who's at the head of the Church now. And the church is advancing. And we're prevailing.
You can't advance without a warrior mentality. You can't prevail without understanding spiritual authority. And you can't do either of those things if you only know the gentle Jesus. You need to know the Warrior King.
Will You Recognize Him?
Here's my question for you: When Jesus shows up as Warrior King—when He appears with sword drawn, when He comes as Captain of the Lord's host, when He reveals this side of Himself that most believers have never seen—will you recognize Him?
Or will He seem foreign? Unfamiliar? Different from the Jesus you thought you knew?
Joshua was alarmed at first. He didn't recognize the Captain. He had to ask: Are you for us or for our adversaries? And the answer was clear: I am the Captain of the Lord's host.
Not neutral. Not distant. But positioned. Armed. Ready for war. On the side of God's people.
That's the Jesus coming in the last days.
And if you're not prepared for this revelation, if you're still only comfortable with the gentle Jesus, you might miss what He's doing right now.
The wilderness tests have prepared you for this. The spiritual attacks you've survived have trained you for this. The times you've stood firm in faith when everything was shaking—those have been conditioning you for this. You're ready to know the Warrior King.
What This Means for You
So what does this mean practically?
It means your authority is about to look different. Your boldness is about to be tested. Your willingness to take ground spiritually is about to be required.
It means you're not just praying for peace—you're praying for victory.
It means you're not just asking God to protect you—you're asking Him to advance through you.
It means you're not just surviving in the kingdom—you're conquering in it.
This is the season. This is the revealing. This is when the church begins to perceive the Lord as He truly is: not just Savior, but King. Not just comforter, but Warrior. Not just friend, but Commander.
And if you've been prepared in the wilderness, if you've learned obedience through your trials, if you've stood firm when others fell away—you're ready for what comes next. You're ready to follow the Warrior King.

Excited? Uncertain? Challenged? Sit with that feeling and ask God what He's trying to show you.
4. What areas of your life need the Warrior King instead of just the Savior?
Where do you need to advance instead of just defend?
5. Are you ready to follow Jesus in a new way—not just as Savior, but as Captain?
What would that look like in your life?
Prayer
Father, I come before You with a humble heart, ready to receive a new revelation of Your Son. I've known Jesus as Savior, as Comforter, as Healer. But today I'm asking to know Him as Warrior King.
Open my eyes to see Jesus as He truly is. Help me understand that the wilderness I've been in has been preparation, not punishment. Show me the lessons I've learned through trial and difficulty. Help me recognize that I'm being trained for battle.
I'm ready to advance. I'm ready to follow the Captain of the Lord's host. I'm ready to move from defense to offense in my spiritual life. Help me shed any passivity or complacency. Awaken in me the courage to stand firm, to speak boldly, to advance the Kingdom of God.
By the power of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus Christ, I declare that I am prepared. I am ready. I am a soldier in the advancing church. And I will follow the Warrior King wherever He leads.
Teach me what it means to have the mind of Christ as Warrior. Teach me how to pray with authority. Teach me how to take ground spiritually. Teach me how to advance.
