You're Supposed to Be Like Jesus

Real talk: You're supposed to be like Jesus in this world. Not someday. Not when you get to heaven. Right now. Today. In the actual world you're living in.

Not perfectly. Not without growth. But essentially, fundamentally, in the most real way: You are like Jesus. This is not arrogance. This is not weird spiritual bypassing. This is the radical truth that transforms how you show up every single day.

1 John 4:17 says: "As He is, so are we in this world."

Jesus is powerful. Confident. Full of love and truth. Walking in authority. Not intimidated. Compassionate. Clear about His purpose. Unshakeable. And the verse says: That's who you are in this world. Not who you're trying to become. Not who you hope to be eventually. Who you are right now.

The Foundation

1 John 4:17 (NKJV)

"Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world."

"Love has been perfected among us" — Jesus' love is complete. It's finished. It's not lacking or incomplete. That love has been given to us.

"that we may have boldness in the day of judgment" — Because of this perfect love, we can have confidence. Not fear. Not shame. Boldness. We're coming before God as loved children, not enemies.

"because as He is, so are we in this world" — Here's why we can have boldness: We're like Jesus. We're not like the world. We're not like our old selves. We're like Him.

Part One

What "As He Is" Actually Means

Jesus is Love

Not just loving — Love itself. When people encountered Jesus, they encountered love. And you are like that. At your core, you are love because you are in Christ.

Jesus is Truth

Jesus didn't waffle. He didn't people-please. He spoke truth clearly and compassionately. And you are like that — you're not trying to figure out what people want to hear.

Jesus is Powerful

Jesus commanded demons. He healed the sick. He spoke and things changed. And you are like that — you have authority in Christ. You speak and things shift.

Jesus is Confident

Jesus wasn't insecure. He knew who He was and moved from that knowing. And you are like that — not desperate for validation, secure in who you are.

Jesus is Clear About Purpose

Jesus didn't wander confused. He knew why He was here. And you are like that — you know your purpose. You're moving toward something.

Jesus is Unshakeable

Criticism didn't shake Jesus. Rejection didn't shake Him. Opposition didn't defeat Him. And you are like that — rooted in God, not easily moved.

Part Two

What This Is NOT

This is not arrogance.

You're not better than anyone else. Arrogance is thinking you're great because of yourself. Confidence in Christ is knowing you're great because of Him.

This is not spiritual bypassing.

You still have to deal with your stuff. You still have to heal. But you're doing that work as someone who is already like Jesus, not desperately trying to become like Him.

This is not pretending to be perfect.

You're going to mess up. But those mistakes don't change who you fundamentally are. You're still like Jesus. You're still walking in authority.

This is not disconnected from reality.

Yes, there are struggles. Yes, there are challenges. But you're facing them as someone who is like Jesus, not as someone who is small and powerless.

Part Three

What This Means for How You Show Up

In Conversations

I hope they like what I'm saying. I hope I don't say something wrong.

I speak truth with love. I'm not desperate for approval. I'm clear and confident.

In Leadership

I hope I'm doing this right. I hope people respect me.

I lead with love and authority. I'm not perfect, but I'm confident in who I am.

In Conflict

I hope this doesn't escalate. I hope they don't get mad at me.

I speak truth. I stand firm. I address conflict directly instead of avoiding it.

In Your Calling

I hope I'm on the right path. I hope this works out.

I know my purpose. I move with authority toward my calling. I take action instead of waiting.

In Difficult Situations

This is too big. I can't handle this. I'm not equipped.

I have authority and power. I face this with courage. I believe for breakthrough.

With Opposition

They don't like me. I need to make them understand or approve.

Not everyone will like me. That's okay. I'm secure in who I am regardless of their opinion.

Part Four

The Jesus Model

Jesus Was Clear

Jesus wasn't ambiguous. He was clear about who He was and what He came to do. You are like that — clear about your values, your boundaries, and what you stand for.

Jesus Was Compassionate

Jesus saw people and was moved by their suffering. But His compassion didn't make Him a doormat. You are like that — you care deeply, but your compassion is also clear and boundaried.

Jesus Wasn't Intimidated

The Pharisees tried to trap Him. The Romans tried to control Him. The crowd tried to manipulate Him. None of it worked. You are like that — not intimidated by people's opinions.

Jesus Spoke Truth

Sometimes gentle, sometimes sharp — but always true. You are like that — you speak truth. Not harshly, but clearly. Not to hurt, but to heal. Not to control, but to free.

Jesus Had Authority

Jesus didn't ask permission. He didn't apologize for taking up space. He moved with the authority of God — to serve, to heal, to restore. You are like that — authorized, not needing permission to be who you are.

Part Five

The Confidence This Gives

Confidence to Be Yourself

You're not performing. You're not pretending. You're being yourself — the self that is like Jesus.

Confidence to Speak Truth

You're not staying silent to keep the peace. You're speaking truth with love and clarity, even when it's hard.

Confidence to Take Action

You're not paralyzed by fear. You're moving toward your goals and calling with decisive action.

Confidence to Lead

Whether at work, at church, or in your own life — you're leading from authority and love.

Confidence to Face Opposition

Criticism comes. Rejection comes. But you're not destroyed by it because you know who you are.

Confidence to Believe for Breakthrough

You're not passive. You're believing for breakthrough and working toward it with faith.

Part Six

How to Walk in This

Speak It Into Reality

"I am like Jesus in this world. I walk with authority. I speak with truth. I love with power." Say it every morning. Say it before important conversations. Your words shape your reality.

Study How Jesus Moved

Read the Gospels. Watch how Jesus responded to criticism. Watch how He handled pressure. Watch how He loved people. You're looking for a template — how to move with the same confidence, clarity, and compassion.

Let Go of People-Pleasing

You cannot be like Jesus and be a people-pleaser. Jesus wasn't trying to make everyone happy. He was trying to do what was right. Let go of the need for everyone's approval.

Set Clear Boundaries

Jesus had boundaries. He didn't say yes to everything. He knew His limits and His purpose. Say yes to what aligns with your values. Say no to what doesn't. Don't apologize for it.

Speak Truth Even When It's Hard

There will be moments when speaking truth costs you. Remember: You are like Jesus. He spoke truth even to the powerful. He spoke truth even when it was unpopular. So do you.

Take Risks

Jesus took risks. He stepped into uncomfortable situations. He believed for things that seemed impossible. Take the risk on the relationship. Take the risk on the calling. Move even when you're not 100% certain.

Lead From Love

Whatever you're leading, lead from love. Love for the people. Love for the vision. Love for what's true. Jesus' authority flowed from His love. Your authority does too.

Part Seven

When It Feels Hard to Believe

"I just messed up. How can I be like Jesus when I just did that?"

One mistake doesn't change who you are. Jesus had authority and love even when facing the worst circumstances. You do too.

"They rejected me. How can I be like Jesus if people are rejecting me?"

Jesus was rejected too. Rejection is not evidence that you're not like Jesus. It's evidence you're walking on the same path He walked.

"People are against me. How can I be like Jesus when I'm being attacked?"

Jesus was opposed constantly. The religious leaders, the Romans, the crowd — all turned against Him. And He remained who He was. You're doing the same.

"I don't feel powerful or authoritative."

Feelings lie. Your authority is not based on how you feel. Your power is not dependent on your emotions. You are like Jesus whether you feel it or not. The feeling will catch up.

"How can I be like Jesus in this hard season?"

Jesus faced betrayal. He faced suffering. He faced death. And He remained unmovable. This difficult season is refining you into more of who you already are.

Part Eight

The Boldness This Creates

Here's what 1 John 4:17 is really promising: Boldness. Not arrogance. Not recklessness. Boldness. The ability to stand firm. The ability to speak clearly. The ability to move decisively. The ability to face opposition without flinching.

This boldness comes because you know: I am like Jesus in this world. You're not small. You're not powerless. You're not insignificant.

In your workplace — speak up

In relationships — be honest

In your faith — don't hide

In your calling — pursue it

In opposition — face it

In leadership — lead boldly

This boldness is not confidence in yourself. It's confidence in whose you are.
