Communion for Loved Ones
When your heart is heavy for someone you love — bring them to the Table. The covenant you have with God is big enough for the people you carry.
Welcome
This Communion is for when your heart is heavy for someone else. You are not coming to the Table for yourself today — you are coming for your child who has wandered, your spouse who is struggling, your parent whose health is declining, your friend who is facing a crisis they never saw coming.
There are times when the people you love cannot or will not come to the Table themselves. They may be far from God, far from hope, or simply too overwhelmed to reach out. You can stand in the gap. You can bring them before the Lord. The bread you hold and the cup you drink carry power not only for you — but for those you love.
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you." — Numbers 6:24-25
Why This Communion Matters
Throughout Scripture, people stood in the gap for those they loved. Abraham interceded for Sodom. Moses stood between God and Israel after the golden calf. The centurion came to Jesus on behalf of his servant. The Syrophoenician woman fought for her daughter's deliverance. Faith can operate on behalf of another person.
When you take Communion for a loved one, you are not performing a ritual. You are exercising your covenant authority to petition heaven on their behalf. The blood of Jesus speaks on their behalf — for their salvation, their healing, their deliverance, their return. You are not alone in your concern. Heaven is concerned with you.
Primary Scripture
3 John 1:2
"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."
It is not selfish to pray for the total wellbeing of those you love — body, soul, and circumstances.
Short Teaching
In Mark 2, four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus. When they couldn't get through the door because of the crowd, they climbed onto the roof, dug through it, and lowered their friend down on a mat. Verse 5 says: "When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralyzed man, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'"
Notice: it was their faith Jesus saw — not the paralyzed man's. The man on the mat may have had no faith at all. He may have been too broken to believe. But his friends believed for him, and Jesus honored their faith. You can be the friend carrying the mat. You can be the one who digs through the roof. You can be the one whose faith heaven sees and responds to.
When you take Communion for a loved one, you are lowering them down before Jesus. You are saying: "Lord, they can't come to You right now, so I'm bringing them. See my faith and move on their behalf." This is not presumption. It is intercession in its most tangible form — the body and blood of Jesus applied to the life of someone you love.
Your love for them opens a door. Your faith for them moves the hand of God.
Part One
The Bread
His Body — Broken for Those You Love
Bread Declaration (Speak the name of your loved one)
Lord Jesus, I hold this bread — Your body — for [name]. Your body was broken so that [name] could be made whole. I apply the finished work of the cross to their life right now. Whatever is broken in their body — I declare healing. Whatever is broken in their mind — I declare peace. Whatever is broken in their spirit — I declare restoration. The body of Christ was broken so that no part of [name]'s life would remain in pieces.
Receive the Bread
Take the bread. Eat it. As you do, picture your loved one receiving wholeness from the hand of God.
Pause here. Take your time.
Part Two
The Cup
His Blood — Covering Those You Carry
Cup Declaration (Speak their name again)
Lord Jesus, I hold this cup — Your blood — covering [name]. I plead the blood of Jesus over [name]'s life. Over their salvation — let them know You. Over their protection — shield them from the enemy. Over their future — order their steps. Over their heart — soften it toward You. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word over [name]'s life than any diagnosis, any circumstance, any mistake. I cover [name] in the blood of the Lamb.
Receive the Cup
Drink. As you do, see the blood of Jesus covering every area of your loved one's life.
Pause here. Take your time.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, I have brought [name] to Your Table today. I have lowered them through the roof, placed them before You, and asked You to see my faith and move on their behalf.
I have taken the bread — declaring wholeness over their body, mind, and spirit. I have taken the cup — covering them in the blood of Jesus. I release them into Your hands. I cannot control their choices, but I can cover them in prayer. I cannot change their heart, but I can petition the One who can.
Holy Spirit, hover over [name] right now. Send the right people, the right circumstances, the right wake-up calls. And give me peace as I trust You with the ones I love most. I seal this Communion in the blood of Jesus. Amen.
Declarations
Declare these over your loved one. Insert their name where you see [name].
I pray that [name] may enjoy good health and that all may go well with them. (3 John 1:2)
The Lord bless [name] and keep [name]; the Lord make His face shine on [name]. (Numbers 6:24-26)
Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your household. (Acts 16:31)
I contend for [name]'s salvation, healing, and deliverance. (Isaiah 49:25)
The Lord will guide [name] continually and satisfy [name]'s needs. (Isaiah 58:11)
No weapon formed against [name] shall prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)
God's kindness leads [name] toward repentance. (Romans 2:4)
I stand in the gap for [name] until they can stand for themselves. (Ezekiel 22:30)
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
