Kidney Health Communion

Kidney disease attacks more than the body — it attacks your sense of control, your peace about the future, and your understanding of what your life will look like. When your body cannot do what it was designed to do, it is easy to feel as though you are broken beyond repair. But the Communion Table tells a different story. It declares that brokenness is not the end — it is the very place where Jesus does His deepest work.

This Communion service reclaims the truth: your body is still fearfully and wonderfully made, even with declining kidney function. Jesus is the Living Water — the One who promised that rivers of living water would flow from within those who believe in Him. When your physical kidneys struggle, let your spiritual wellspring overflow. At this Table, we meet the One whose body was broken so yours could be made whole — every organ, every system, every cell.

Isaiah 58:11 paints a picture of a life that is sustained from the inside out — "like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." That is the promise of God over your body, including your kidneys. When your physical filtration system is compromised, God promises to be your spiritual filtration — strengthening your frame, satisfying your needs, guiding you always.

Jesus stood on the last and greatest day of the Feast of Tabernacles and cried out: "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them" (John 7:37-38). He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, who would be given to every believer. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you — and He gives life to your mortal body.

This is not about ignoring your medical reality. It is about adding a spiritual reality on top of it. Your nephrologist has one report. The blood of Jesus has another. Your lab results tell one story. The finished work of the cross tells another. Both can be true at the same time — you can receive treatment AND receive healing. You can take medication AND take Communion. The Table is not an either/or; it is a both/and. Jesus meets you in the dialysis chair. Jesus meets you at the clinic. Jesus meets you in the waiting room and in the exam room and in the quiet moments when fear is loudest.

When you take this bread and this cup, you are receiving the body that was broken for your wholeness and the blood that was shed for your covenant. You are saying: I believe that Jesus' finished work covers my kidneys. I believe that He is the Living Water. I believe that by His stripes, my entire body — including every organ and system — is being restored.
