Strength for Today
When you are running on empty — Jesus meets you at the Table to renew your strength, to be your daily bread, and to give you grace sufficient for this day.
Welcome, friend.
You're running on empty. You woke up this morning already tired — not just physically, but in your soul. Yesterday took everything you had. The day before took everything you had. And now today is here, with its own demands, its own challenges, its own weight, and you're not sure you have anything left to give.
Maybe you're facing a health battle that has drained your reserves. Maybe you're caring for someone and the well of compassion feels dry. Maybe you're in a season of relentless demands — work, family, responsibilities — and you've been running on fumes for weeks. Maybe you're fighting a spiritual battle that has left you weary in the deepest places.
I want you to know today: You don't need strength for tomorrow. You don't need strength for next week. You only need strength for today. And today's strength is available to you right now at the Lord's Table.
Jesus taught us to pray: "Give us this day our daily bread." Not weekly bread. Not monthly bread. Daily bread. Enough for today. And that's exactly what Communion is — your daily bread, your strength for this one day, your grace that is sufficient right now.
Today, we're taking Communion to receive exactly what we need for this day — nothing more, nothing less. We're not borrowing trouble from tomorrow. We're not carrying yesterday's exhaustion. We're receiving today's grace, today's strength, today's provision from the One who promises to sustain us.
Opening Prayer
Father God,
I come to You empty. My tank is dry. My reserves are gone. I have given everything I had to yesterday, and today is already demanding what I don't have. But You promised that Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your power is made perfect in my weakness.
So I'm not coming to You asking for a week's worth of strength. I'm not asking for a month's worth of provision. I'm asking for today's bread. Just enough for today. I trust that when tomorrow comes, tomorrow's grace will be waiting. But right now, I need today's grace.
As I take Communion, I receive that grace. I receive Your strength flowing into my weakness. I receive Your power filling my emptiness. I quiet my heart and turn my attention to You — the One who daily bears my burdens. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Jesus made a radical statement in Matthew 6:34: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." This was not Jesus dismissing our problems. This was Jesus teaching us how to live — one day at a time, receiving daily grace for daily challenges.
He modeled this in the Lord's Prayer: "Give us this day our daily bread." He didn't teach us to pray for next month's bread. He taught us to pray for today's bread. The God who parted the Red Sea, who fed manna in the wilderness, who raised Jesus from the dead — He wants you to trust Him for this one day. Not because He can't handle more, but because He is teaching you to live in the present moment with Him.
Communion is the ultimate daily bread. It is the Table where you come empty and leave filled. It is the place where grace meets your exhaustion, where strength meets your weakness, where provision meets your lack. When you take the bread and the cup, you are saying: "Lord, I receive everything I need for this one day."
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
— Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
And also: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9
Listen to me carefully: You do not need tomorrow's strength today. You only need today's strength for today's demands. And today's strength is already paid for.
One of the enemy's most effective strategies is to overwhelm you with the future. He shows you everything that's coming — next week, next month, next year — and says, "How are you going to handle all of this?" And suddenly you feel crushed under the weight of things that haven't even happened yet. You're carrying tomorrow's burdens with today's strength, and of course it's not enough. It was never designed to be.
When God gave the Israelites manna in the wilderness, He gave them a very specific instruction: gather enough for one day. If they gathered extra, it rotted. The only exception was the day before the Sabbath — then they gathered for two days. But the pattern was clear: daily bread. Daily provision. Daily strength. One day at a time.
Jesus is your manna. He is your daily bread. And when you take Communion, you are gathering fresh manna for this one day. You are saying: "Lord, I don't know what tomorrow holds, and I'm not going to worry about it. Give me what I need for today. Let today's grace be enough for today's challenges. Let today's strength be enough for today's demands."
And the beautiful thing is: today's grace is always enough. It has never run out. It has never come up short.
When the Apostle Paul begged God to remove his thorn in the flesh, God didn't remove it. Instead, He said: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." That word "sufficient" means "enough." It is enough. Right now. For this day. For this moment. For this challenge. You don't need to borrow strength from tomorrow — today's grace is enough.
The Bread
Invitation
Please take the bread.

Reflection
This bread represents the body of Christ — your daily bread, your manna from heaven, your strength for this one day. Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry." He is not bread for a month. He is bread for this moment. When you receive this bread, you are receiving today's portion of His life, His strength, His grace.
You do not need to worry about whether there will be enough for tomorrow. Today's bread is enough for today. And when tomorrow comes, there will be fresh bread waiting.
Prayer Over the Bread
Jesus, I thank You for Your broken body. You are my daily bread. You are my manna in the wilderness. You are my strength when I have none.
I receive today's provision. I release the weight of tomorrow. I release the exhaustion of yesterday. I stand in this present moment and I receive exactly what I need for this one day — no more, no less. Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your power is being made perfect in my weakness right now.
Thank You. Amen.

The Cup
Invitation
Please take the cup.

Reflection
This cup represents the blood of Jesus — the blood of the New Covenant that guarantees you will never be left to face life on your own. When Jesus shed His blood, He purchased an unending supply of grace. Not grace that was enough for the apostles two thousand years ago, but grace that is sufficient for you today, in this moment, in this exact situation.
The covenant in His blood means that God is for you — not against you. He will not abandon you when you are weak. He will not run out of patience when you are struggling. He will not turn away when you come to Him empty for the hundredth time. His blood purchased a limitless supply of exactly what you need right now.
Prayer Over the Cup
Jesus, I thank You for Your blood — the blood of the covenant that guarantees I will never be forsaken. I receive the fullness of today's grace. I receive strength for my weakness, peace for my anxiety, hope for my despair, and power for my exhaustion.
By Your blood, I am not running on empty — I am filled with Your Spirit. By Your blood, I am not facing this day alone — You are with me. By Your blood, I am not defined by my weakness — Your power is being perfected in me right now.
I trust You for today. I will not reach into tomorrow. I will rest in the grace that is sufficient for this one day. Amen.

Closing Prayer
Father, I stand before You on behalf of everyone who came to this Table running on empty.
You are the God who gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall — but those who hope in You will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint.
Renew them now. Fill every empty place. Restore strength where it has been depleted. Give them today's manna — fresh, sufficient, exactly enough. And as they go through this day, let them feel Your presence sustaining them moment by moment.
For tomorrow, they will come to the Table again. Tomorrow's grace will be waiting. But for today — this is enough. You are enough. In Jesus' name, Amen.
