Guided Communion Service
Sustained in Singleness
Singleness is not a waiting room, not a consolation prize, not a lesser path. At this table, your singleness is blessed and your life is complete in Christ.
Welcome
Friend, if you are here because you are single — whether by choice, by circumstance, or by the calling of God — and you need to know that your life is full and meaningful and sustained by God, Jesus meets you here. He was single. He lived a complete, purposeful life unmarried. He understood that singleness is not a waiting room. Singleness is a legitimate way to live, to love, to serve, and to flourish.
Singleness in a coupled world is a particular kind of loneliness. You watch your friends marry. You attend weddings. You see families. And you wonder if your life will always feel incomplete. But the world tells you that you are incomplete without a partner — and Jesus teaches us something different. Your life is not on hold. Your worth is not determined by your relationship status.
You are complete in Christ. Your singleness is not a temporary condition to be endured — it is a season God can fill with purpose, meaning, love, and joy.
Why This Communion Matters
Jesus was single. He never married, yet His life was complete, purposeful, and deeply relational. He poured Himself into His disciples, invested in people, and loved deeply. He showed us that singleness is not a life lived in isolation, but a life lived in deep community and service.
Paul wrote about singleness as a gift: "I wish that all of you were as I am… but each of you has your own gift from God" (1 Corinthians 7:7). Both singleness and marriage are gifts. Both are valid paths. Both are blessed by God. At this table you claim the truth that your life can be full, meaningful, and joyful in singleness — not provisionally, but completely.
Primary Scripture
1 Corinthians 7:32–35
"An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs… An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit."
John 15:15
"I no longer call you servants… Instead, I have called you friends."
Psalm 68:6
"God sets the lonely in families — he leads out the prisoners with singing."
The Bread
Hold the bread in your hand. This bread represents the body of Christ — given by a single man who lived a complete and purposeful life. Jesus shows us that singleness is not less. It is different. It is full.
Jesus poured Himself completely into His mission and His relationships. He did this as a single person. His singleness did not diminish His purpose — it allowed Him to pour out His love fully. Your singleness, too, is not empty. It is a life filled with God's presence, sustained by His strength, and brimming with purpose.
"I receive the body of Christ, given by a single man who lived a complete and purposeful life. My singleness is not less — it is full, meaningful, and blessed by God."
Eat the bread now, receiving the truth that your life is complete in Christ, exactly as you are.
The Cup
Hold the cup in your hand. This cup represents the blood of Jesus — covenant that you are sustained by God alone. You do not need a spouse to be whole. Jesus is your companion, your satisfaction, and your strength.
At the cross, Jesus gave Himself completely for the redemption of humanity — as a single person. Through His sacrifice, He opened the way for you to be fully known and fully loved. Your identity is not in your relationship status. It is in being a beloved child of God, adopted into His family, with an eternal inheritance.
"I drink this cup receiving the covenant promise that I am sustained by God alone. I do not need a spouse to be whole. Jesus is my companion, my satisfaction, and my strength."
Drink the cup now, receiving the fullness of life available to you as a single person in Christ.
Closing Prayer
Father, I come to this table single. I acknowledge that this is my current reality, and I choose to trust that You are sustaining me, that You have purpose for my singleness, and that my life is complete in You. I release the lie that I am incomplete without a spouse. I receive the truth that I am whole in Christ.
Help me live fully in singleness — to invest in relationships, to pour myself into my calling, to love deeply, to serve faithfully. Help me build a life rich with community, with purpose, and with Your presence. Show me that my singleness is not a consolation prize — it is a gift. As I take this bread and cup, I receive the sustenance I need to live fully, faithfully, and joyfully in my singleness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
