About Nicole

I'm a pastor, a teacher, an author, a patient advocate, a caregiver, and the founder of Nicole Washington Ministries. But underneath all the titles, I'm a woman who has spent more than four decades walking with people through the seasons most people try to avoid — illness, caregiving, grief, loss, disappointment, and the quiet, stubborn work of believing God when nothing looks like what you prayed for.

I come from six generations of Southern Black faith — grandmothers and grandfathers who prayed before the sun came up and sang hymns while they worked. That heritage shaped me. It taught me that faith isn't something you put on for Sunday morning. Faith is what carries you through Monday, through the dialysis chair, through the hospital room, through the nights when words won't come.

I've been a pastor for over thirty-eight years. I've served in churches, led ministries, trained leaders, and walked alongside people in some of the hardest moments of their lives. I've written books, preached sermons, taught Bible studies, and built communities — but the thing I'm most grateful for is that God has let me be present with people who needed someone to say, "You're not alone. Your story is not over."

I also live with end-stage renal disease. Dialysis is a part of my life — not the whole of it, but a real part. And God has met me in that chair in ways I cannot explain. What was supposed to be a limitation became a platform. What was supposed to take me out became the very thing God used to build this ministry.

I do this because I know what it feels like to sit in a chair you didn't choose, waiting for a treatment you didn't ask for, wondering if God sees you. I know what it feels like to care for someone you love and run out of strength before you run out of need. I know what it feels like to grieve, to doubt, to fight, and to stand back up when every part of you wants to stay down.

And I also know what it feels like when grace shows up in the middle of it. When a word from Scripture opens something in your spirit you didn't know was closed. When someone prays with you and the weight shifts. When you realize that survival was never the goal — thriving is.

Everything I write, everything I teach, every prayer I pray, and every conversation I have is built on one conviction: your story is not over. God is still writing it. And as long as you're breathing, there is reason to keep walking forward.
