Prayer Before a Funeral
"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me." — Psalm 23:4
Even in the shadow of death, God is near. This prayer is for those preparing to say goodbye — asking for comfort, strength, and the peace that only God can give as you honor the life that was lived.
A Prayer Before a Funeral
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank You even in this time of loss. I thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted. I thank You that You understand grief. Today I plead the precious blood of Jesus over this funeral, over my family, over my grief, over the service, and over God's complete comfort and strength.
I thank You that even in death, You are with us. I thank You for the life that was lived. I thank You for memories that remain. I thank You for assurance that our loved one is with You. I thank You for the hope of eternity.
I thank You that I am being carried through this grief. I thank You that I am not alone. I thank You that comfort is coming. I thank You that this funeral will honor the life that was lived.
I love You. I honor You. I give You all the glory. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Confession of Faith
- • I confess that God is near to the brokenhearted.
- • I confess that grief is real and valid.
- • I confess that I am not alone in my loss.
- • I confess that God is my comfort.
Declaration
I declare that God is with me in this grief.
I declare that I am being comforted.
I declare that my loved one is with Jesus.
I declare that I will see them again.
