Wisdom in Caregiving
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." — James 1:5
Caregiving requires medical decisions, practical decisions, financial decisions, relational decisions, emotional decisions, and spiritual decisions — and no one is equipped to make all of them alone. God gives wisdom generously to those who ask.
Short Declarations
I have wisdom for this assignment. God guides my decisions. I know what to do when the situation is complex. I ask for help when I need it. I receive counsel from the right sources. I navigate this with grace and clarity. I am not doing this alone — God is guiding me. Wisdom is available to me in abundance. I make good decisions on behalf of the person I care for. God gives wisdom generously to those who ask.
Scripture: James 1:5, Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 32:8
A Prayer for Wisdom in Caregiving
Father God, caregiving requires decisions I am not always equipped to make alone.
Medical decisions. Practical decisions. Financial decisions. Relational decisions about who should be involved and who should not. Emotional decisions about when to push and when to let go. Spiritual decisions about how to care for someone's soul alongside their body.
I need wisdom for all of it.
The kind that goes beyond what I know from my own experience. The kind that sees the full picture when I can only see part of it. The kind that comes from You — who knows the person I am caring for better than I do, who loves them more perfectly than I am capable of, and who can guide me in caring for them with both honesty and grace.
Give me that wisdom today.
Not just for the big decisions — for the small ones too. What to say. What not to say. When to act. When to wait. When to speak truth. When to simply be present.
Lead me, Father. In the details.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
