Prayer for Drawing Near to God

Heavenly Father, You are the God who is not far off. You are not distant or disinterested — You are near to every heart that reaches for You. I come before You today with a deep hunger in my soul, a longing to know You more, to experience Your presence in ways I never have before. Draw me close, Lord. I do not want a religion about You; I want a relationship with You.

Forgive me for the times I have allowed the busyness of life, the noise of this world, and the distractions of my own mind to pull me away from Your presence. I confess that too often I have settled for going through the motions instead of truly seeking Your face. I have let lesser things occupy the space in my heart that belongs to You alone. Wash me clean, Lord, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Father, I ask You to stir up a holy desperation in my spirit — a desperation that will not be satisfied with anything less than You. Remove every barrier, every wall I have built, every fear that keeps me at arm's length from You. Tear down the lies that tell me I am not worthy to approach Your throne. Your Word says I can come boldly because of the blood of Jesus, and I receive that invitation today.

I declare that my soul thirsts for You like a deer pants for water. I will not let go until I encounter You. I set my heart to seek You in the morning, to meditate on Your Word through the day, and to rest in Your presence at night. Make me a person of Your presence, Lord. Let my life be marked by an undeniable nearness to You that others can see and are drawn to.

I trust Your promise that when I draw near to You, You draw near to me. So here I am, Father, with open hands and an open heart. I lay down every weight and every sin that so easily entangles. I choose to abide in You, knowing that apart from You I can do nothing. Be my everything, Lord — my source, my strength, my song, and my satisfaction.

Thank You, Father, that You are not a God who hides. You delight in revealing Yourself to Your children. As I press into You, I believe You are pressing into me. I receive Your love, Your peace, and Your nearness right now. Let this be the beginning of a deeper, richer walk with You than I have ever known. In Jesus' precious and powerful name, Amen.
