Prayer for Engagement

"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave." — Song of Songs 8:6-7

Engagement is sacred preparation. It is more than a season of excitement, wedding planning, and looking forward to the big day — it is the foundation upon which your entire marriage will be built. The decisions you make now, the conversations you have now, the spiritual habits you establish now will shape decades of life together. This season deserves to be covered in prayer. Not just prayers for the wedding to go smoothly, but prayers for your hearts to be aligned, your character to be refined, and Christ to be the center of your relationship before you ever say "I do."

A Prayer for Engagement

Father, we come before You in this sacred season of engagement. Thank You for bringing us together. Thank You for the love we share and the future we are building. But we know that a strong marriage doesn't happen by accident — it is built on purpose, with You as the cornerstone. So we invite You into every part of this engagement season. Be the center of our relationship. Be the foundation of our covenant.

Prepare our hearts for marriage, Lord. Not just for the wedding — for the lifetime that follows. Show us the areas where we need to grow. Reveal the selfishness we haven't seen in ourselves. Teach us how to communicate with honesty and grace. Help us to learn the art of forgiveness now, before the stakes feel even higher. Shape our character so that we become the husband and wife You have called us to be.

Protect us during this engagement season. The enemy does not want this covenant to succeed, and he will attack in subtle ways. Guard our purity. Guard our unity. Guard our peace. When wedding planning brings stress, remind us that the wedding is one day but the marriage is a lifetime. Don't let us sacrifice our relationship on the altar of a perfect event.

We pray for our families, Lord. For the blending of two histories, two traditions, two sets of expectations. Give us wisdom in navigating family dynamics. Help us to honor our parents while establishing that we are becoming one — a new family unit. Where there is tension, bring peace. Where there is resistance, bring understanding. Let our families bless this union.

Father, we ask You to be the third strand in our cord — the One who holds everything together when we cannot hold it ourselves. Let our engagement be marked by prayer, by purity, by purpose. Not just a countdown to a ceremony, but a holy preparation for a lifetime of loving each other the way Christ loves the Church.

We dedicate this season to You, Lord. Every conversation. Every decision. Every moment of planning. Every hope for the future. Write our love story, and let it be one that glorifies You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
