Prayer for Evangelism

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19

Evangelism is the heartbeat of the Great Commission — the sacred privilege of telling lost people about a Savior who found us. Every believer is called to be a witness, yet fear and uncertainty often hold us back. This prayer covers those who intentionally share their faith in their neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities, asking God for boldness and for souls ready to receive.

A Prayer for Evangelism

Father of mercy, who desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, we thank You for entrusting us with the ministry of reconciliation. It is staggering to think that You have chosen to place the treasure of the gospel in jars of clay — that our stumbling words about Jesus can be used by Your Spirit to bring dead souls to life. We are humbled and emboldened by this holy calling.

Lord, we confess that we have not always been faithful witnesses. Fear of rejection has silenced us when we should have spoken. Comfort has made us forget the urgency — that every person we see will spend eternity somewhere. Forgive us for caring more about being liked than about people being saved. Break our hearts with the things that break Yours and fill us with a burden for the lost that will not let us stay silent.

Father, we ask for the spirit of boldness that filled the early church. When Peter and John were threatened and told to stop speaking, they prayed for more courage, not less danger. Give us that same holy grit. Help us to speak the truth in love — neither watering down the gospel to make it comfortable nor delivering it so harshly that people hear judgment without grace. Grant us the right words for the right moment.

We pray for the harvest to be ripe. Prepare hearts in advance. We ask that You would orchestrate divine appointments — conversations where people are already asking the very questions the gospel answers. For the skeptics, remove intellectual barriers. For the hurting, let compassion open doors. For the indifferent, send circumstances that awaken eternal questions. Draw people to Yourself, Lord, and let us simply be the voice they hear when they are ready to respond.

Father, we pray for those who do evangelism as their primary calling — street preachers, campus ministers, crusade organizers, and digital evangelists. Protect them, provide for them, and let them see fruit. But we also pray for the everyday evangelists — the mothers sharing Jesus with their children, the employees living out their faith at work, the neighbors building relationships across the fence. Multiply their efforts for Your glory.

We declare that the gospel is still the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. No culture is too dark, no heart too hard, no person too far gone. We commit to being part of heaven's search-and-rescue mission, trusting that we will rejoice together over every sinner who repents. In the powerful, saving name of Jesus, Amen.
