Prayer for Freedom from Pride

"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." — James 4:6

Pride is the sin that disguises itself as strength. It tells you that you do not need anyone — not help, not advice, not God. It makes you unwilling to admit when you are wrong. It pushes people away because vulnerability feels like weakness. Pride builds walls and calls them standards. It keeps you from growing because you cannot learn what you think you already know. But humility is not weakness — it is the strength to be honest about who you really are. It is the freedom of not having to be better than everyone. This prayer is for anyone who recognizes pride in their own heart — asking God to replace self-sufficiency with humble dependence on Him and genuine openness to others.

A Prayer for Freedom from Pride

Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come to You about the pride in my heart. I thank You that You are patient with me. I thank You that You resist the proud but give grace to the humble. I thank You that humility is not weakness but strength under control.

I acknowledge that pride is present in me. I acknowledge that I struggle to admit when I am wrong. I acknowledge that I resist needing help. I acknowledge that I push people away because vulnerability feels dangerous. I acknowledge that I have acted as if I do not need You.

I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my heart. Over the pride that has become my identity. Over the insecurity underneath it. Over the relationships my pride has damaged. Over my resistance to correction and feedback.

Break the power of pride in my life. Give me the courage to be vulnerable. Give me the humility to admit when I am wrong. Give me the grace to receive correction. Teach me that my worth does not depend on being better than anyone. Replace self-sufficiency with genuine dependence on You.

I commit to practicing humility daily. I commit to listening more than I speak. Thank You that You give grace to the humble. Thank You that I do not have to prove myself. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
