Prayer for Leadership
"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them." — 1 Peter 5:2
You have influence. People are looking to you. They are following your example. They are depending on your leadership — whether you asked for that responsibility or not. You want to lead well. You want to lead with integrity. You want to lead in a way that lifts others up rather than building yourself up. Leadership is a trust. It requires humility — great leaders know they do not have all the answers and are willing to listen. It requires service — you cannot ask others to do what you will not do. It requires integrity — your private life and public leadership must match. This prayer is for anyone who carries the weight of leading others.
A Prayer for Leaders
Father God, in the name of Jesus, I come before You about my leadership. I thank You for the influence I have been given — not because I earned it, but because You entrusted it to me for a purpose. I acknowledge the responsibility. My choices affect others. My words carry weight. My example shapes people. I do not take that lightly.
I confess that sometimes I prioritize my own comfort over what is best for those I lead. I confess that sometimes I make decisions for my benefit rather than theirs. I confess that pride has crept in — the belief that I know better, that I don't need input, that leadership means having all the answers. Forgive me for leading from ego instead of from service.
I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my leadership — over my decisions, over my influence, over the people entrusted to my care. Cover what I do well and redeem what I do poorly. Protect those I lead from my blind spots and my limitations.
I commit to leading with integrity — my yes meaning yes, my private life matching my public persona. I commit to being honest — even when honesty costs something. I commit to putting people ahead of my interests. I commit to leading by example — doing what I ask others to do. I commit to serving, not ruling — remembering that the greatest leader is the one who serves.
Give me wisdom I do not have. Give me humility to listen. Give me courage to make hard decisions. Give me grace for when I get it wrong. Thank You that I am leading well — not perfectly, but faithfully. I love You. I honor You. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
