Prayer for Missionaries

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." — Mark 16:15

Missionaries answer the Great Commission at its most literal level — they go. They leave behind family, comfort, language, and safety to carry the gospel where it has never been heard or where the church is struggling to survive. Their work is difficult and often invisible. This prayer stands in the gap for those who have crossed oceans and borders for the sake of the Name.

A Prayer for Missionaries

Almighty God whose heart beats for every tribe, tongue, and nation, we lift before You today the men and women called missionaries — those who have laid everything on the altar to take the good news where it has not yet been heard. They have counted the cost and found You worthy. Thank You for their obedience and courage, for their willingness to be uncomfortable so that others might find eternal comfort in Christ.

Father, we confess that we have not always supported missionaries the way we should. We have sent them with prayers and promises but have sometimes forgotten them when the initial excitement faded. We repent of treating the Great Commission as someone else's calling while we settled into lives of comfort. Stir our hearts to be not just senders but genuine partners with those who go.

Lord, we plead for the safety of every missionary working in regions hostile to the gospel. Place a shield around them that no weapon can pierce. Give them supernatural favor with local authorities and communities. When doors seem closed, open them. We ask for divine provision — that every financial need would be met, that every piece of paperwork would pass through the right hands, and that no practical obstacle would hinder the spiritual work You have assigned them.

We pray against loneliness and culture shock — the silent battles missionaries often fight alone. Surround them with genuine friendships. Help them learn languages and customs with supernatural speed. Protect their marriages and strengthen their children. For those serving in spiritually dark places, grant them boldness to speak truth without fear and wisdom to know when silence speaks louder.

Father, let the seed they sow fall on good soil. We declare a great harvest in every field where they labor — souls saved, churches planted, disciples made, communities transformed. Let them see enough fruit in this life to know their labor is not in vain, even as they trust that the full harvest belongs to eternity.

We entrust our brothers and sisters on mission to Your faithful care, knowing that You who called them will sustain them. Give them joy in the journey, peace in the waiting, and confidence that the gospel is still the power of God for salvation. In the name of Jesus who left heaven itself on a rescue mission, Amen.
