Prayer for Shame

Father, I come before You carrying shame. Shame about things I've done. Shame about things done to me. Shame about who I think I am. It's been with me so long it feels normal — this crouching, this hiding, this fear of being truly seen.

But Your Word says that those who look to You are radiant — their faces are never covered with shame. That's not what I feel right now. I feel covered. So I ask You: lift the shame. Not because I'm denying what happened — but because Jesus already paid for it. He bore my shame on the cross. He was stripped naked, mocked, and exposed so that I would never have to be. He took the shame that belonged to me.

Lord, I renounce the lie of shame. It says I am my worst moment. It says I am irredeemable. It says I should stay hidden forever. But Your Word says I am a new creation. The old has gone. The new has come. I am not defined by my past — I am defined by what Jesus did on the cross and who You say I am.

For the things I have done — I receive Your complete forgiveness. Not partial. Not probationary. Complete. The blood of Jesus cleanses me from all unrighteousness. All of it. I don't have to keep paying for what Jesus already paid for.

For the things done to me — I release myself from the shame that never belonged to me. What someone else did to me is not my identity. I am not what happened to me. I am who You say I am. I release every bit of shame I've been carrying for another person's sin.

Father, give me the courage to come into the light. Shame grows in darkness and secrecy. Help me find safe people — a trusted friend, a counselor, a pastor — and speak the thing I've been hiding. Let the light break shame's power. Let truth overcome the silence.

I declare that I am forgiven. I am cleansed. I am righteous in Christ — not because I earned it, but because He gave it. Shame has no hold on me anymore. I am free.
