Spiritual Warfare & Discernment

Opening

I was in San Antonio, Texas.

Alone in the family room of my home. Worried about something. Seeking God. Praying for direction and guidance.

And I looked over at my couch.

And there was a being. Huge. Sitting cross-legged on my couch like he belonged there.

And I wasn't scared.

That's the thing people don't understand about angels. When an angel shows up, there's a peace that settles over the moment. Even if your circumstances are terrifying — like a blown-out tire on a freeway — the presence of an angel carries something that calms the chaos. There's this overwhelming sense of: Everything is okay. You're safe. Your natural fear may not vanish instantly, but something deeper settles.

So I looked at this angel sitting on my couch, and I said, "Hey."

And he said, "Hey."

And he smiled and said, "It's gonna be alright."

And then he was gone.

Not walked away. Gone. Vanished. Like he was never there.

But he was there. I know he was there. Because something shifted in me. The worry left. The peace came. And I knew—absolutely knew—that God had sent a messenger to reassure me.

That's what Part 2 is about: Recognizing when angels are present. Understanding how they work in your everyday life. And learning to cooperate with the spiritual realm.

Angels Work Through Ordinary Circumstances

Angels don't always announce themselves.

Most of the time, they work through ordinary circumstances. Through normal people. Through everyday situations.

You might not even realize an angel was involved until much later—if at all.

Hebrews 13:2

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

"Unawares." That means you don't know it.

You might help someone and not realize they're an angel.

You might be helped by someone and not realize they're an angel.

You might receive a message from someone and not realize it came from an angel.

Angels work in stealth. In the mundane. In the everyday.

Signs an Angel Has Been Present

So how do you recognize when an angel has been at work?

Look for the supernatural within the natural.

When something happens that defies explanation. When someone shows up at exactly the right time. When a problem gets solved in an unexpected way. That's often an angel.

Pay attention to peace.

When an angel shows up or when an angel has worked on your behalf, there's usually a supernatural peace. A knowing. A sense that everything is going to be okay. The Bible calls this the peace that passes understanding.

Watch for unexplainable disappearances.

Like the angel on my freeway who changed my tire and then vanished. Or the angel on my couch who delivered a message and then was gone. When someone appears, helps, and then disappears in an impossible way—that's likely an angel.

Notice divine timing.

When help arrives exactly when you need it. When a person says exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment. When a door opens right when you need it to. That's often an angel orchestrating circumstances.

Feel the presence.

Sometimes you just know. You feel the presence of something holy. Something divine. Something otherworldly. Trust that feeling. That's often an angel.

Angels Deliver Messages

One of the primary functions of angels is delivering messages from God.

Daniel 9:21-23

"Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to make thee skilful of understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision."

Gabriel flew down to Daniel and delivered a message from God. A specific, important message about Daniel's future.

That's what angels do. They bring God's Word. God's guidance. God's comfort.

When I was sitting on that couch in San Antonio, worried and uncertain, an angel appeared and delivered a message: "It's gonna be alright."

That was God's message to me through an angel. A promise. An assurance. Exactly what I needed to hear.

Angels still deliver messages today.

Through a word from a stranger. Through a thought that pops into your head. Through a dream. Through a conversation. Pay attention. That might be an angel.

Angels Provide Protection in Crisis

When you're in danger, angels show up.

2 Kings 6:18-19

"And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the city which ye seek. But he led them to Samaria."

An entire army was coming to capture Elisha. But when they arrived, an angel had blinded them. They couldn't see. Elisha led them away to safety.

That's an angel providing protection in a life-or-death situation.

When I had a blowout on that freeway in Atlanta, I was in danger. Fast-moving traffic. No phone. No protection. And an angel appeared and helped me.

When you're in real danger, God sends angels.

Not to coddle you or make life easy. But to protect you when protection is necessary.

Angels Guide and Direct

Angels don't just protect. They guide.

Acts 8:26-29

"And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot."

An angel told Philip to go to a certain road. Philip obeyed. And on that road, he met an Ethiopian official who needed help understanding Scripture. And Philip led him to Jesus.

An angel created a divine appointment.

Angels guide you into divine appointments. Into meetings that matter. Into conversations that change your life.

You might not realize an angel was involved. You might just think you happened to be in the right place at the right time. But that's often an angel guiding circumstances.

Angels Work in Your Dreams

Sometimes angels communicate through dreams.

Matthew 1:20-21

"But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."

Joseph was confused and afraid about Mary's pregnancy. And an angel appeared to him in a dream and explained everything.

Dreams are one of the primary ways angels communicate.

If you have a dream that's unusually vivid. If you wake up with a message or a knowing. If a dream has a peace or a clarity that's different from regular dreams. That might be an angel.

How to Cooperate With Angels

You can cooperate with the spiritual realm. You can work with angels.

How?

1

Believe they exist.

You can't cooperate with something you don't believe in. So start by genuinely believing that angels are real and operating in your life.

2

Invite them in.

Pray. Ask God to send His angels. Ask for protection. Ask for guidance. Ask for divine appointments. God is not reluctant to send angels. God wants to send them. You just have to ask.

3

Listen and obey.

When you feel a nudge. When you get a thought. When something doesn't feel right. When something feels incredibly right. Pay attention. That might be an angel communicating. And when you get that nudge, obey it. Trust it. Act on it.

4

Pay attention to the spiritual realm.

Stop being so focused on the physical that you miss the spiritual. When you're worried, facing a crisis, or at a crossroads—shift your focus to the spiritual realm. Pray. Seek God. Be sensitive to the presence of the Holy Spirit and angels.

5

Give credit to God.

When an angel has worked on your behalf, thank God. Give God the glory. Not "Oh, I was so lucky." But "God sent an angel to help me." Acknowledge it. Recognize it. Give thanks.

Matthew 26:53

"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?"

Jesus said His Father could immediately send legions of angels. Thousands upon thousands. They're available. You just have to ask.

Angels and Faith

Angels respect your faith.

When you have faith, angels can do more. They have more authority to work on your behalf.

But when you have doubt, they're limited.

Hebrews 11:6

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Without faith, it's impossible to please God.

So when you ask for angelic help, come in faith. Come believing. Come trusting that God will send His angels. And watch what happens.

Angels Don't Make You Passive

Believing in angels doesn't mean you sit around and do nothing.

Angels are sent by God to serve you — but they partner with your faith, not your passivity. They're dispatched at His command, for your benefit, but you still have a part to play.

An angel changed my tire, but I was standing there. I was present. I was receiving the help.

Angels guide, but you still have to take steps. You still have to make decisions. You still have to act.

Angels protect, but you still have to be wise. You still have to watch out for danger. You still have to make good choices.

Proverbs 22:3

"A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished."

Use wisdom. Make good choices. Be prudent. And then let angels work with you to accomplish God's purposes.

Angels Are Real in Your Daily Life

So today, I want you to know:

Angels are real. Not mystical. Not fictional. Real.

Angels are present. Right now. In your life. Around you.

Angels are working. On your behalf. To protect you. To guide you. To help you fulfill God's purposes.

You can cooperate with them. Through prayer. Through faith. Through obedience.

The spiritual realm is more real than the physical. And angels operate in that realm constantly.

When you truly understand this—when it shifts from being an idea to being a reality you live in—everything changes.

You stop being afraid. You stop feeling alone. You stop doubting God's care.

Because you know: Angels are among us. Right now. Helping. Protecting. Guiding.

Reflection Questions

  1. Can you think of a time when something inexplicable happened that might have been an angel? How did it make you feel?
  2. What area of your life right now needs angelic protection or guidance? How can you specifically ask God to send His angels?
  3. What stops you from truly believing in the active work of angels? How can you shift that belief?
  4. How would your daily life change if you lived with the awareness that you're constantly surrounded by angels?

Prayer

Father, thank You for angels. Thank You for sending them to protect me, guide me, and help me.

Open my eyes to recognize their work. Help me be sensitive to their presence. Help me cooperate with them.

Send Your angels to surround me today. Give them charge over my life. Protect me. Guide me. Create divine appointments.

Give me faith to trust in what I can't see. Help me live in the reality of the spiritual realm more than the physical.

Most of all, help me understand how deeply You care about me—enough to send Your messengers to watch over me.

I believe in angels. I believe You're working through them. I believe they're here.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Angels are among us — working, protecting, and guiding. Start living with the awareness that you're never alone.
