It's Not a Game
Let me be direct with you: This is not entertainment. This is not harmless fun. This is not a game. The enemy has done a masterful job of repackaging ancient spiritual practices — things the Bible explicitly forbids — as party games, personality quizzes, and self-discovery tools. And far too many believers have opened doors they didn't even know existed.
Ouija boards are sold in the toy aisle. Astrology is built into your phone. Tarot cards are sold at Urban Outfitters. The occult has been sanitized, commercialized, and normalized — and if you don't understand what's actually happening in the spiritual realm when you engage with these things, you are vulnerable.
I'm writing this because I love you. I'm writing this because the enemy is counting on your ignorance. And I'm writing this because some of you have already opened doors and need to know how to close them.
What the Bible Actually Says
This is not a gray area. God's Word is explicit about these practices. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."

Think about what a Ouija board claims to do: it claims to let you communicate with the dead. That's necromancy. That's explicitly forbidden. Astrology claims to let you read omens in the stars to predict your future. That's divination. Tarot cards claim to reveal hidden knowledge through symbols and spirits. That's sorcery. These are the exact practices God called detestable — and they are no less detestable because they come in a pretty box.
The Enemy Only Counterfeits What Has Value
Here's a principle you need to understand: The enemy only counterfeits what is real. There is no counterfeit three-dollar bill — it's not worth counterfeiting. The enemy counterfeits the things of God because the real thing has power.
God has prophets — the enemy has psychics. God gives dreams and visions — the enemy gives counterfeit supernatural experiences. God speaks through His Word — the enemy speaks through tarot cards and horoscopes. God gives the Holy Spirit as our guide — the enemy offers spirit guides and mediums.
Every occult practice is a counterfeit of something God actually offers. And when you settle for the counterfeit, you open a door to a spirit that is not the Holy Spirit. That spirit does not have your best interests in mind. That spirit wants to steal, kill, and destroy — and it will use your curiosity as the entry point.
Common Doors You Might Not Recognize
Ouija Boards
Marketed as a game. It is not a game. It is an invitation. When you use a Ouija board, you are opening yourself to communication with spirits — and you do not get to choose which spirit answers. Do not be deceived: the spirit behind that board is not your deceased grandmother. It is a familiar spirit — a demonic spirit that has observed your family and impersonates the dead.
Astrology & Horoscopes
"What's your sign?" sounds innocent. But when you look to the stars to tell you who you are, what your future holds, or how you should live, you are practicing divination. Your identity and your future are not written in the stars — they are written by the God who made the stars. Astrology is a counterfeit of prophecy. The enemy will give you enough accurate information to hook you — and then he will lead you into bondage.
Tarot & Oracle Cards
These are not self-discovery tools. They are instruments of divination. Every card pull is an invitation for a spirit to speak into your life. The reason the cards sometimes seem accurate is not because the cards have power — it's because a spirit is feeding information to the reader. You are not discovering yourself. You are communing with something that wants to destroy you.
Mediums, Psychics, and "Energy Work"
Whether it's a storefront psychic, a TikTok tarot reader, or "energy healing" that doesn't invoke the name of Jesus — if the power source is not the Holy Spirit, it is another spirit. And that spirit will extract a price you cannot afford.
How to Close the Door
If you have engaged with any of these practices — even casually, even just once, even "just for fun" — you may have opened a door that needs to be closed. Here is how:
- Repent. Call it what it is — sin. Not a mistake, not curiosity, not "just a phase." Say: "Father, I have sinned. I opened a door to the enemy through [name the practice]. I renounce it. I repent of it. I turn from it completely."
- Renounce. Out loud, in the name of Jesus, renounce every spirit that gained access through that door. Say: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce every familiar spirit, every spirit of divination, every spirit of witchcraft, and every lying spirit that entered through my engagement with [name the practice]. I break every agreement I made — knowingly or unknowingly — with the enemy."
- Close the door. Say: "In the name of Jesus, I close every door I opened. I seal it with the blood of Jesus. The enemy has no legal right to operate in my life through this door anymore."
- Destroy the objects. If you still own Ouija boards, tarot cards, astrology books, crystals used for spiritual purposes, or any occult objects — do not sell them. Do not give them away. Destroy them. Acts 19:19 shows believers who brought their sorcery scrolls and burned them publicly. Follow their example.
- Fill the space. Don't leave a vacuum. Replace what you removed with the Word of God, worship, and prayer. Where the enemy had a foothold, establish a stronghold of truth.
A Prayer to Close Every Door
Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that I have sinned by engaging with practices that You have forbidden. I repent of every involvement with the occult — whether it was Ouija boards, astrology, tarot, psychics, witchcraft, or any other practice that did not come from You.
I renounce every spirit that gained access to my life through these doors. I break every agreement, every covenant, every soul tie formed through occult involvement. I close every door in the name of Jesus and seal it with His blood.
Holy Spirit, fill every space the enemy occupied. Renew my mind. Restore my discernment. Let Your Word be the only thing I consult for guidance, and let Your voice be the only voice I follow.
