Depression

What does God say when everything feels dark?

Darkness does not mean God has left. Some of the most honest words in all of Scripture were written from the pit — psalms of lament, cries of broken hearts, short verses that carry the weight of real grief. God does not ask you to pretend you're fine. He meets you in the dark with His presence, His comfort, and the promise that morning will come.

Primary Scriptures

Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

When Everything Feels Dark

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?

Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

When You've Lost Hope

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

When Your Heart is Broken

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)

When You Can't See the Point

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

John 11:35 (NIV)

When Grief Won't Lift

Jesus wept.

*Short but profound — acknowledges that Jesus understands grief

Matthew 28:20 (NIV)

When You Feel Abandoned

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Biblical Truth Summary

Depression is not a failure of faith — Scripture is filled with people who walked through darkness and cried out to God. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. When you can't see the point, God sees the whole picture. When you feel abandoned, Jesus promised to be with you always. And when grief won't lift, remember: Jesus wept too. He knows. He cares. He stays.
