Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness depends on what happens — circumstances, feelings, events. Joy is deeper. It is the settled confidence that God is good, God is in control, and God is with you — no matter what happens. Scripture calls joy a fruit of the Spirit, a choice, and a strength. You can have joy even when you don't feel happy.
