God does not stand at a distance from your pain. Psalm 34:18 says He is close — near — to the brokenhearted. The Hebrew word for "brokenhearted" means shattered, broken into pieces. God is not uncomfortable with your mess. He draws near to what is shattered. And He does not just comfort — He saves. He rescues those who are crushed in spirit.

What This Looks Like

Healing from trauma is rarely instant. It is often incremental — a wound bound up over time, not a scar erased overnight. Jeremiah 30:17 is personal: "I will restore you to health and heal your wounds." This is God speaking to a people who had been through devastation. He didn't minimize what they endured — He promised restoration. And Revelation 21:4 reminds you of the destination: a day when every tear is wiped away forever.

What to Do

1. Acknowledge the wound. Healing begins with honesty. You cannot bind up what you pretend isn't there.
2. Invite God into the pain. He is already near. Let Him in. Pray the Psalms of lament — they give you language for what you're feeling.
3. Don't rush the process. Wounds heal at their own pace. Give yourself permission to not be okay yet.
4. Seek wise counsel. God often heals through community — a trusted pastor, a Christian counselor, a faithful friend.
5. Declare freedom over your future. Your trauma does not get the final word. Isaiah 61 says Christ came to proclaim freedom for the captives.
6. Hold onto the promise. One day every tear will be wiped away. Let that hope anchor you while you heal.
