Welcome
Friend, if you are here because you long to know God more deeply — if you want to close the distance between yourself and your Creator, to move from knowing about God to knowing God — Jesus meets you with an invitation and a promise. He came to tear down the wall between God and humanity. He made it possible for you to draw near to God without fear, without shame, without distance.
There is a distance between you and God that you feel but cannot quite name. But this distance is not God's fault. God is not hiding. God is inviting you closer. The barriers are within you — doubt, shame, busyness, the noise of the world, the simple fact that you have not made intimacy with God your priority. But you are ready to change that. You are ready to draw near.
At this table, you step closer to the God who has been calling you all along, inviting you into deeper relationship and deeper love.
Why This Communion Matters
Intimacy with God is not automatic. It requires intention. It requires time. It requires vulnerability — a willingness to be known by God and to know Him in return. Abraham was called "God's friend." Moses spoke with God face to face, "as one speaks to a friend." David wrote, "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God."
This communion is an act of closing the gap, of stepping across the distance, of moving closer to the God who loves you and has been waiting for you to come near. Jesus removed the barrier. The veil was torn. Access was granted. Now it is up to you to draw near — and as you move toward God, God moves toward you.
Primary Scripture
James 4:8
"Come near to God and he will come near to you."

"The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."

"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life."
A Word of Teaching
James gives us a promise: "Come near to God and he will come near to you." This is not a conditional statement — it is an invitation. God is already near. He is not the one who moved. But there is something that happens when you intentionally turn your attention, your affection, your awareness toward God. He responds. He meets you. He draws close.
At the cross, Jesus removed every barrier between you and God. The veil in the temple — the symbol of separation between a holy God and sinful humanity — was torn from top to bottom. Access was granted. Intimacy became possible. The only thing standing between you and God now is the distance you choose to maintain. Jesus has done everything necessary. Now the invitation is yours: come near.
The Bread
Hold the bread in your hand. This bread represents the body of Jesus Christ — the bridge between God and humanity. Through His body, broken on the cross, the distance has been closed.
Jesus is the bridge. His body, broken for you, spans the chasm that sin created between you and God. When you receive this bread, you are stepping onto that bridge and walking toward the Father who has been watching for you from the road. Like the prodigal's father, God runs to meet you. He is not distant. He is not cold. He is eager.
"I receive the body of Christ — the bridge between God and me. The distance is being closed. I am drawing near to God, and God is drawing near to me."
Eat the bread now, stepping across the distance into the arms of the Father who loves you.
The Cup
Hold the cup in your hand. This cup represents the blood of Jesus — shed to remove every barrier between you and God, washing away everything that stood in the way of intimacy.
The blood of Jesus did not just forgive your sins — it opened the door to relationship. You now have access to the presence of God, not as a servant who may enter once a year with trembling, but as a beloved child who can crawl onto the Father's lap at any moment. This is what the cross purchased — not just salvation from sin, but intimacy with the living God.
"I drink this cup as a covenant with God — that I am His, He is mine, and nothing stands between us. The veil is torn. I draw near with confidence."
Drink the cup now, receiving the access to God's presence that Jesus' blood purchased for you.
Closing Prayer
Father, I come to this table with a longing to be closer to You. I acknowledge the distance I feel, and I ask You to help me close it. I want to know You. I want to experience Your presence. I want the kind of intimacy where I can talk to You as a friend, where I know Your heart, where I am constantly aware of Your love.
Remove the barriers that stand between us. Forgive me for the sin that separates us. Heal me of the shame that keeps me at distance. Free me from the busyness and distraction that crowd out time with You. Help me make intimacy with You my highest priority. Draw me closer, Father — I am ready, I am willing, I am opening myself to the closeness I have longed for.
As I take this bread and cup, I step across the distance and draw near to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
