The Fight Nobody Knows About

Everybody is fighting something. But some fights are visible, and some are not. You show up at church, at work, at the family dinner, and nobody can see the thing you are carrying. It might be a diagnosis you have not shared. It might be a marriage that looks fine from the outside. It might be a child you are praying for while everybody else is posting graduation pictures. It might be a financial situation that keeps you up at night while you smile through the day. It might be depression, anxiety, chronic pain, grief, or a battle in your mind that never stops. People see the version of you that showed up. Almost nobody sees the version of you that got up at three in the morning and walked the floor, talking to God because He was the only One awake.

When the Private Battle Is Your Body

For some of you, the thing nobody sees is your health. You live with a condition that people cannot see, and because they cannot see it, they assume it is not there. They wonder why you cancel plans. They wonder why you are tired. They do not understand what it costs you just to show up. And you have learned to perform wellness because it is easier than explaining.

Paul had a thorn in the flesh. He prayed three times for God to remove it. God did not remove it — He said, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness." And Paul's response was not despair. He said, "Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." That is not fake positivity. That is a person who found out that the thing he wanted removed was the very thing God was using to display His power. The thorn was not a punishment. It was a platform. And the grace that shows up in the three a.m. hour, when nobody else is watching, is more real than any public victory.
