Righteousness — but not your own. The righteousness of God imputed to believers through faith in Christ. It is a legal declaration, not a behavioral achievement (Romans 3:22, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Righteous, just — one who is in right standing with God. In the NT, this is by faith, not works. Describes both God's character and the standing of those justified by Christ (Romans 1:17).

Judgment, but also decision and separation. The process of distinguishing and deciding — not only condemnation but also vindication and justice for the oppressed (Matthew 12:18, John 5:24).

The realm of the dead, the intermediate state. Not the final lake of fire (Gehenna). In Revelation, Hades itself is thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14).

The Valley of Hinnom — Jesus used this word for the final place of eternal judgment, the lake of fire. A real place of destruction, not a metaphor (Matthew 5:22, Mark 9:43).

Used only once (2 Peter 2:4) — the deepest abyss where fallen angels are held in chains of darkness awaiting judgment. Not for humans.

Faith, trust, fidelity — not blind belief but confident trust based on the reliability of God. A persuaded conviction that produces faithfulness (Hebrews 11:1, Romans 10:17).

To believe, to entrust — an active verb, not passive. It means to place your full weight on something. Believing in Jesus means entrusting your entire life to Him (John 3:16, Acts 16:31).

Glory — but also splendor, radiance, honor, and the manifest presence of God. The weightiness of who God is. When Scripture says we are being transformed from glory to glory, it means from one degree of God's radiance to another (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Grace — but more than favor. It is God's divine enablement, His empowering presence, His beauty poured out on the undeserving. Grace not only saves you; it equips you (Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Corinthians 12:9).

Forgiveness as release — literally 'to send away.' When God forgives, He sends your sins away. They are removed, dismissed, separated from you as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12, Ephesians 1:7).

Mercy — compassion for the miserable. Grace gives what you don't deserve; mercy withholds what you do deserve. Both meet at the Cross (Titus 3:5, Hebrews 4:16).

Power, ability, miraculous power. The root of 'dynamite.' The explosive, resurrection power of God that is available to every believer through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8, Ephesians 3:20).

Strength, might — inherent power, the ability that resides within. Different from dynamis (explosive power in action). Ischus is latent strength; dynamis is strength unleashed (Ephesians 1:19, 1 Peter 4:11).

Dominion, manifested power — power that rules and governs. The authority of a king. Used almost exclusively of God's sovereign dominion (1 Peter 5:11, Revelation 1:6).

To judge, to decide, to distinguish — the act of separating and evaluating. Can mean to condemn, but also to vindicate, to rule in favor of. God's judgment includes both justice for the oppressor and deliverance for the oppressed (John 3:17, Revelation 19:11).

An answer, a response — not judgment. Used of Jesus giving answers to questions and Pilate's response. It means to reply or give an answer (Luke 2:47, John 19:9).

Strong desire, longing, craving — can be good or bad depending on context. Jesus earnestly desired (epithumia) to eat the Passover. The same word describes sinful lust. Context determines whether the desire is holy or sinful (Luke 22:15, Galatians 5:16).

The word eros does NOT appear in the New Testament. Greek culture used it for romantic/passionate love, but the Bible deliberately avoids it and uses agape and phileo instead — God's love is not based on desire but on choice and commitment.

Mammon — the personification of wealth as an idol. Jesus said you cannot serve both God and Mammon. It is not money itself, but money as a competing master that commands allegiance (Matthew 6:24).

Riches, abundance — can be material or spiritual. Paul speaks of the 'unsearchable riches of Christ' and the 'riches of His grace.' God's wealth is not measured by your bank account (Ephesians 3:8, Romans 2:4).

Holy, set apart — not primarily about moral purity but about being separated for God's purposes. A saint (hagios) is not someone who never sins; it is someone set apart by God and for God (1 Peter 2:9, Romans 1:7).

To cleanse, to purify — used for healing from leprosy, cleansing from sin, and the purifying work of Christ's blood. It is not about surface cleaning but deep, transformative cleansing (1 John 1:7, Mark 1:41-42).

Calling — God's divine invitation into relationship and purpose. It is not about what you do for money but about who God has called you to be. Your klesis is irrevocable (Romans 11:29, Ephesians 4:1).

To call, to invite, to name — God calls things into existence, calls people to Himself, and calls you by name. When God kaleo, it creates reality — what He calls you, you become (Romans 4:17, 1 Peter 2:9).
