Prayer After Miscarriage
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." — Jeremiah 1:5
Miscarriage is a profound and often silent grief — the loss of a child you already loved, dreamed about, and anticipated meeting. Whether it happened early or late, your baby mattered. Your loss matters. This prayer is a place to bring your tears, your anger, your questions, and your aching heart to the God who sees you.
A Prayer for Grieving Parents
Father God, my heart is broken. I was carrying life — a child I already loved, already dreamed about, already imagined holding — and now that life is gone. The silence where a heartbeat should have been is unbearable. And I bring that pain to You, because I don't know where else to take it.
Lord, I need You to hold me. I need You to hold my baby. I trust that my child is with You — safe, whole, and loved in a way I could only begin to provide. You knew them before I did. You formed them. And now they are in Your presence, where there is no pain, no loss, no tears.
Comfort my body, Lord. It still doesn't understand what has happened. Heal me physically. And heal me emotionally — from the guilt that whispers I did something wrong, from the anger that doesn't know where to go, from the grief that comes in waves when I least expect it.
For my partner — hold them too. We are grieving differently, and that can feel lonely. Help us to hold space for each other's pain without comparison.
And God, if there is hope for another pregnancy, I place that hope in Your hands. If there is fear — fear of trying again, fear of another loss — I give that to You too. You are the Author of life. I trust You with what comes next, even when I can't see it.
My baby was real. My baby mattered. And I will carry this child in my heart until the day I see them face to face in eternity. Thank You that death does not have the final word — You do.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
