You know by now: You have about 60,000 thoughts a day. Most of them are lies.

But now you need to know: How do you stop believing them?

How do you recognize which thoughts are lies? How do you reject them? How do you replace them?

Because knowing that your thoughts can lie to you is one thing. But actually STOPPING the lies? That's a different battle.

That's what Part 2 is about.

Bad Thoughts vs. Ugly Thoughts

Understanding the Difference

Not all lies are created equal. There are BAD thoughts. And there are UGLY thoughts. Understanding the difference is crucial.

BAD THOUGHTS

Bad thoughts are false but not necessarily evil. They're lies, but they come from your own programming, your trauma, your insecurity, your fear.

I'm not good enough.I'll never succeed.Nobody likes me.I'm broken.I can't do this.

These are bad thoughts. They're false. They're destructive. But they're coming from your own mind, usually based on something you learned or experienced.

UGLY THOUGHTS

Ugly thoughts are deeply evil. They're demonic. They come from the enemy. They're designed not just to deceive you, but to DESTROY you.

You're worthless. You should die.God doesn't love you. He hates you.Everyone would be better off without you. You're disgusting.Give up. There's no hope.

These are ugly thoughts. They're not just false. They're EVIL. They're designed to push you toward destruction.

Bad thoughts make life harder.

They discourage you. Rooted in lies you learned.

Ugly thoughts try to end life.

They try to destroy you. Rooted in demonic attack.

You need to recognize the difference because you respond to them differently.

Where Bad Thoughts Come From

Understanding Your Programming

1

Your Family

Your parents, guardians, or family members had broken thinking. They passed it to you. Your parents were anxious, so you learned anxiety. Your parents were critical, so you learned to be self-critical. Now those thoughts feel NORMAL to you. Feel TRUE. But they're lies your family taught you.

2

Your Trauma

Something bad happened to you. Your mind made a conclusion. "People hurt me, so people can't be trusted." "I was helpless, so I'm powerless." "I was abandoned, so I'm unlovable." One experience. One bad thing. And your mind created a bad thought that shaped your entire life.

3

Your Culture

Your culture has messages about who you should be, what you should look like, what you should achieve. And you absorbed them. "I need to look this way to be worthy." "I need to achieve this to matter." These are bad thoughts. Cultural lies. But they feel TRUE because everyone around you believes them.

4

Your Own Mind

Your mind makes up stories. Fills in blanks. Makes assumptions. Someone didn't text you back: "They hate me." Something went wrong: "I'm a failure." Someone looked at you funny: "They're judging me." Your mind CREATES bad thoughts by making assumptions without evidence.

All four sources produce bad thoughts that FEEL TRUE.

That's why they're so hard to recognize and reject.

Where Ugly Thoughts Come From

Understanding Demonic Attack

Ugly thoughts come from one source: The enemy. Demons attack your mind. They plant thoughts designed to destroy you.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." — Ephesians 6:12

Spiritual forces of evil. They're real. And they target your MIND.

They plant thoughts like:

You're disgusting.Everyone would be better off without you.God hates you. You'll never change. You should hurt yourself.Give up.

These aren't thoughts that come naturally. These are PLANTED. These are ATTACKS.

How do you know it's demonic?

It contradicts Scripture: God says you're loved. The ugly thought says you're worthless.
It brings despair: Not sadness. DESPAIR. A sense that there's no hope.
It's invasive: It won't leave you alone. It keeps coming back. It's persistent.
It feels urgent and intense: Like it's an emergency. Like you MUST act on it immediately.
It leads toward destruction: Not just harm. DESTRUCTION. Death. Ending.

If you're experiencing thoughts like this, know: These are ugly thoughts. These are demonic attacks. These are NOT truth.

How Bad and Ugly Thoughts Operate

Understanding the Attack Pattern

Bad thoughts and ugly thoughts work similarly, but with different intensity.

1

The thought appears.

Just shows up. You didn't invite it. It just appears in your mind. A bad thought: "You're not good enough." An ugly thought: "You should hurt yourself."

2

You notice it.

You become conscious of the thought. It's in your awareness.

3

You react to it.

Your immediate instinct is to believe it or fight it. If you believe it: you experience emotion (shame, fear, despair) and make decisions based on it. If you fight it: you get more anxious. Resisting makes it stronger.

4

The thought develops (if you let it).

If you keep engaging with the thought, it grows. "You're not good enough" develops into "You're not good enough at anything. You'll never succeed. Everyone knows." The ugly thought "You should hurt yourself" develops into "You should end it."

5

The thought shapes belief, emotion, and action.

Now you BELIEVE the thought. It's not just a thought anymore. It's part of your worldview. Your emotions follow: fear, shame, despair. Your actions follow: you stop trying, you isolate, you hurt yourself. Or worse.

This is how thoughts destroy lives.

Not by being true. But by being believed.

How to Recognize a Bad Thought

The Diagnostic Questions

When a thought appears, ask yourself:

1

Is this aligned with Scripture?

What does God say about this? If God says "You're loved" and the thought says "You're worthless," the thought is false.

2

Does this bring peace or anxiety?

Good thoughts bring peace (even about hard things). Bad thoughts bring anxiety, fear, shame.

3

Is this based on evidence or assumption?

Do I KNOW this is true? Or am I assuming? Bad thoughts are often based on assumptions, not facts.

4

Is this helping me or hurting me?

Does this thought move me toward life and growth? Or toward death and destruction?

5

Have I believed this thought before?

Is this a recurring thought? A familiar lie? Bad thoughts are often repetitive. The same lies over and over.

If the thought fails these tests, it's a BAD THOUGHT.

How to Recognize an Ugly Thought

The Demonic Attack

Ugly thoughts have specific characteristics:

1

It contradicts Scripture strongly.

Not just a soft contradiction. A DIRECT contradiction. God says "I love you" — ugly thought says "God hates you and wants you dead." God says "You matter" — ugly thought says "The world would be better without you."

2

It brings despair, not sadness.

You can be sad and still have hope. Despair means NO hope. No way out. No point trying. Ugly thoughts bring despair.

3

It's invasive and persistent.

You try to ignore it. It comes back. You try to reject it. It returns. You try to distract from it. It's still there. Like an intruder that won't leave your house.

4

It's urgent and intense.

The thought feels EMERGENCY-like. Like you MUST respond NOW. Like you MUST act immediately. That urgency is a sign. Real thoughts don't usually have that desperate intensity.

5

It leads toward self-harm or harm to others.

"You should hurt yourself." "You should kill yourself." "You should hurt that person." "You should destroy yourself." These are UGLY thoughts. These are demonic.

If a thought has these characteristics, it's an UGLY THOUGHT. It's a demonic attack.

Take Captive Every Thought

Understanding 2 Corinthians 10:5

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." — 2 Corinthians 10:5

TAKE CAPTIVE — ARREST it. STOP it. CAPTURE it before it develops.

Not after it's taken over your mind. But RIGHT when it appears.

MAKE IT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST — TEST it against truth.

Test it against Scripture. Test it against God's character.

1

NOTICE the thought.

Don't let it run in the background unconsciously. Bring it into consciousness. Acknowledge it. "I'm having this thought."

2

STOP the development.

Don't let it develop further. Don't add details to it. Don't elaborate on it. Don't run with it. Stop it right there.

3

QUESTION it.

Is this true? Is this from God? Is this aligned with Scripture? Ask the diagnostic questions.

4

REJECT it (if it fails the test).

Say OUT LOUD if possible: "I reject this thought. This is a lie. I will not believe this." Don't just think it. SAY it. Your words have power.

5

REPLACE it with truth.

Don't just reject the lie. Replace it with TRUTH. The bad thought says "You're not good enough" — REPLACE with "I am capable. I am worthy. God says I am enough." The ugly thought says "You should hurt yourself" — REPLACE with "I am loved. My life has value. God created me for a purpose." Say the truth OUT LOUD.

This is TAKING CAPTIVE every thought.

Replace Bad Thoughts With Good Thoughts

The Practical Daily Practice

You can't just reject bad thoughts and stop there. Nature abhors a vacuum. If you remove a thought without replacing it, another bad thought rushes in. You need to REPLACE it.

1

Identify the bad thought.

What's the lie you're believing? Write it down if it helps.

2

Identify the truth that contradicts it.

What does God say about this? Find Scripture. Find reality.

3

Speak the truth out loud.

Every time the bad thought comes back, SPEAK the truth. Don't just think it. SAY it.

4

Repeat it.

Do this multiple times a day. The bad thought came thousands of times. The truth needs to come thousands of times too. Train your mind toward truth through repetition.

5

Notice the shift.

After days or weeks of replacing, something shifts. The bad thought still appears sometimes. But it has less power. The truth is stronger. More familiar. More real.

Examples:

Lie: I'm a failure.

Truth: I'm learning and growing. God is working in me.

Lie: Nobody loves me.

Truth: I am loved. God loves me. People love me.

Lie: I can't do this.

Truth: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Lie: I'm broken.

Truth: I am made new in Christ. I am whole.

This is how you transform your thought life.

Not by willpower alone. But by REPLACING lies with truth.

When to Seek Help

Recognizing When You Need More Support

If you're experiencing UGLY thoughts, especially thoughts about harming yourself or others, SEEK HELP IMMEDIATELY. These are demonic attacks that are serious.

You might need:

• A counselor or therapist
• A pastor or spiritual leader
• A trusted friend to pray with you
• Medical support for depression or mental health crisis
• Emergency services if you're in immediate danger

There is NO shame in seeking help. This is wisdom.

Ugly thoughts are REAL spiritual attacks. They require REAL support. Don't try to handle them alone.

What Changes When You Guard Your Thoughts

The Transformation

When you start taking captive every thought, things shift.

Your mind becomes clearer.

You're not living in confusion anymore. You're not believing every lie. Clarity comes.

Your emotions stabilize.

Bad thoughts create emotional chaos. When thoughts are guarded, emotions are steadier.

Your decisions improve.

You make choices based on truth, not lies. Better decisions lead to better life.

Your relationships heal.

You stop assuming people hate you. You stop imagining rejection that isn't real.

Your future becomes hopeful.

You stop believing you're stuck. You start believing you can change. Hope returns.

Your entire life transforms.

Because your thoughts were creating your reality. Now TRUTH is creating your reality.

A Prayer for You

Nicole's Prayer Over Your Thought Life

Father, I'm praying for everyone reading this who's believed lies about themselves and their future.

I pray that you would help them recognize the bad thoughts that come from their programming, trauma, and culture.

I pray that you would help them recognize the UGLY thoughts that are demonic attacks.

I pray that they would have the courage to reject both.

I pray that they would speak truth out loud. That they would replace every lie with your Word.

I pray that they would take captive EVERY thought and make it obedient to Christ.

I pray that as they guard their thoughts, their entire lives would transform.

In Jesus's name, I'm asking. Amen.
