Your soul is lying to you.

Every single day, your soul is telling you things that aren't true. It's making you feel things that don't reflect reality. It's convincing you that what it wants is what you need. It's running your life like it owns you.

And the biggest lie it tells you is this:

"I am you."

Your soul looks in the mirror and says: "This is who you are. Your thoughts are who you are. Your feelings are who you are. Your emotions define you. Follow me. Trust me. I know what's best for you."

And you believe it. But it's a lie.

Your soul is not you. Your soul is part of you, but it's not the real you. Your soul is your mind, your will, and your emotions — and all three of them are constantly lying to you about who you are and what you need.

Understanding this is the key to freedom. Because once you know that your soul isn't you, you stop believing everything it tells you. And your whole life changes.

Your Soul Is Your Mind, Will, and Emotions

Understanding What Your Soul Actually Is

Your soul is three things:

Your MIND

The thinking part. Your thoughts, your reasoning, your ability to understand. Like a computer — it takes input and processes it.

But here's what's important

Your mind is not neutral.

It's been damaged by sin. It's learned lies. It's been shaped by the world. So when your mind thinks something, that doesn't mean it's true.

Your WILL

Your decision-making ability. Your power to choose. Your ability to say yes or no.

But here's what's important

Your will is not ultimate.

Your will can be wrong. Your will can choose things that are destructive. The chooser can make bad choices.

Your EMOTIONS

Your feelings. Joy, sadness, anger, fear, excitement, love — all from your soul.

But here's what's important

Your emotions are not truth.

Emotions are reactions to perception, not reflections of reality. Feelings are not facts.

Together, your mind, will, and emotions make up your soul. And your soul is important. But your soul is not who you are.

Your Soul Is Trying to Run Your Life

And It's Doing a Terrible Job

Here's what happens with most people: they let their soul run their life. Their mind says something and they believe it completely. Their emotions say something and they react immediately. Their will says something and they do it. And their life becomes a mess.

They think a negative thought: "I'm stupid." And instead of questioning that thought, they believe it. They make decisions based on believing they're stupid.

They feel an emotion: "I'm worthless." And instead of recognizing it as just a feeling, they accept it as truth. They start treating themselves like they're worthless.

Your soul is like a toddler.

A toddler sees a cookie and wants it. Now. Doesn't think about nutrition. Doesn't think about meals ahead. Just wants the cookie. Your soul works the same way. It wants what it wants. Now. It doesn't think about consequences. It doesn't think about what's best for you long-term. And if you let your soul run your life, your life becomes chaos.

The tragedy is that so many people never learn this. They go their whole lives thinking their soul is them. And they end up in destructive relationships, making destructive decisions, hurting themselves and others — all because they never learned that their soul isn't them.

Your Mind Is Not Truth

Your Thoughts Lie to You Constantly

Your mind generates thoughts constantly. Every second. But here's the secret: most of your thoughts are lies.

2 CORINTHIANS 10:5

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

Take captive every thought. Why? Because your thoughts are prisoners of war sometimes. They're not on your side. They're working against you.

Your mind tells you:

You're too old. You're too fat. You're not smart enough. You don't deserve love.Nobody will ever believe in you. You've ruined everything. There's no point in trying.

Are these true? No. Your mind is just making stuff up. It learned these thoughts from somewhere — parents, culture, past experiences — and now it keeps repeating them like they're facts. But they're not facts. They're just thoughts. And thoughts can be wrong.

The problem is that you believe your thoughts.

Your thought says: "I'm stupid." You believe it. You make decisions based on that belief. Your life changes because you believed a lie. But what if you didn't believe it? What if your thought said "I'm stupid" and you said "That's just my mind lying again. That's not true"? Everything would be different.

Your Will Is Not Ultimate

Your Choices Can Be Wrong, Even When They Feel Right

Your will is powerful. But your will is not infallible. Your will can want the wrong things.

ROMANS 7:19

"For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do — this I keep on doing."

Your will looks at what feels good in the moment and wants it. It doesn't think about long-term consequences. It doesn't think about what's actually good for your spirit. It doesn't think about God's design for your life.

Your will is like the accelerator pedal. It's powerful. But if you're the only one pressing the accelerator with nobody steering, you're going to crash.

Your spirit needs to be in the driver's seat. Your spirit needs to be steering. Your will can provide the power, but it shouldn't be in control.

Your Emotions Are Not Truth

Feelings Are Not Facts

This is the one people struggle with most because emotions feel so real, so powerful, so true. But intensity doesn't equal truth.

You can feel love intensely for someone who's bad for you. That doesn't make the relationship good. You can feel scared intensely about something that's actually safe. That doesn't make it dangerous. You can feel happy intensely about a purchase that ruins your finances. That doesn't make it wise.

Emotions are reactions. They're not truth. They're how your body responds to your perception of reality — and your perception is often wrong.

Real example

You text a friend and they don't text back right away. Your emotion says: "They hate me." But is that true? Maybe they're busy. Maybe they didn't see it. You don't actually know. But your emotion made a judgment based on incomplete information — and now you're hurt based on a false emotion.

This happens constantly.

Valid ≠ True.

You can have a valid emotion that is not actually true. You can feel rejected even though people love you. You can feel inadequate even though you're capable. Your feelings are real. But they're not facts. Stop treating your emotions like they're truth. Start treating them like information.

How Your Soul Manipulates You

The 5 Tactics Your Soul Uses to Run Your Life

1

Make it feel urgent.

Your soul creates false urgency. 'You NEED this NOW.' Urgency makes you stop thinking and start reacting — and reacting is how your soul gets you.

2

Make it feel true.

Your soul presents its thoughts like facts: 'You ARE not good enough.' By presenting opinions as facts, your soul gets you to believe them.

3

Make it feel justified.

'You deserve this. You've worked hard.' By creating justifications, your soul removes your guilt and gets you to act.

4

Make it feel good.

Your soul emphasizes pleasure and hides consequences — showing you the excitement of the relationship but hiding the pain.

5

Isolate you from your spirit.

Your soul creates so much noise — so much emotion, thought, urgency — that your spirit's quiet voice can't break through.

How to Stop Believing Your Soul

Taking Back Control From Your Mind, Will, and Emotions

1

Recognize that your soul is not you.

Your soul is part of you, but it's not the real you. Your real self is your spirit — the part made in God's image, the part that's eternal. Once you recognize this, you can stop believing your soul so automatically.

2

Question your thoughts.

When your mind presents a thought, ask: 'Is that actually true? Who says? What evidence is there?' Often, the thought isn't based on facts — it's based on old programming, old hurts, old lies.

3

Don't trust your feelings.

When you feel something strongly, pause. Ask: 'Is this feeling based on actual facts or on my perception?' Often, your feeling is based on fear or insecurity, not reality.

4

Check your will against your spirit.

Before you do something your will wants, get quiet. Ask: 'Is this actually good for me? Does this align with God's truth?' Often, your spirit will tell you your will wants something destructive.

5

Actively feed your spirit.

The more you feed your spirit with God's Word, the stronger your spirit becomes. And the stronger your spirit, the easier it is to recognize when your soul is lying.

Your Soul Is Important, But It's Not You

Honoring Your Soul Without Being Enslaved to It

Your soul is not the enemy.

Your mind is a gift. Your ability to think, reason, understand, learn — these are powerful gifts from God. Your will is a gift. Your ability to choose, decide, determine your direction — this is an incredible gift. Your emotions are a gift. Your capacity to feel joy and love and excitement and passion — this is beautiful.

Your mind

should think thoughts that align with God's truth — not echo every lie it was ever taught.

Your will

should choose things that align with God's design — not chase every desire that pops up.

Your emotions

should reflect the joy of being connected to God — not swing wildly with every circumstance.

The solution is not to kill your soul. The solution is to put your spirit in charge.

When your spirit is in charge, your mind becomes clearer — thoughts align with God's truth. Your will becomes wiser — choices align with God's design. Your emotions become more stable — feelings reflect God's peace. Your soul is meant to be an instrument of your spirit, not the other way around.

A Prayer for You

Father, I'm praying for everyone reading this who's been enslaved to their soul.

I pray that You would open their eyes to see that their thoughts are not always truth, their feelings are not always facts, their will is not always wise.

I pray that they would stop believing everything their soul tells them. I pray that they would recognize their soul as a processor, not an oracle.

I pray that they would start listening to their spirit instead. I pray that they would learn to hear that quiet, steady voice of truth that knows what's real, what's good, what's best.

I pray that they would feed their spirit so it becomes strong enough to lead. I pray that they would trust their spirit over their soul.

And I pray that they would experience the freedom of no longer being enslaved to their thoughts, feelings, and desires. That they would live like people whose spirit is in charge.

In Jesus's name. Amen.

Your Soul Isn't You

1

Your thoughts are not you.

They're just thoughts. Question them.

2

Your feelings are not you.

They're just feelings. Don't trust them completely.

3

Your will is not you.

It's just your chooser. Make sure your spirit is guiding the choices.

4

Your soul is important.

Your soul is a gift — but it's not the real you.

5

The real you is your spirit.

Made in God's image. Eternal. The part that can hear God and know truth.

Stop believing your soul. Start listening to your spirit. That's when your whole life changes.
